Hi, I'd like to introduce myself. I'm in a minority here as a 2005
Boxster
987 owner, but I'm interested in the views of you guys because there are so many similarities with
Caymans
.
I'm in the UK and have tried to decide for some time whether to replace my standard
CDR24
head unit with
PCM
or some third party alternative. I like the idea of fitting
Porsche
equipment because it is the standard and fits well, but as everyone knows it lacks the sophistication and flexibility of more recent equipment such as the
Pioneer
AVIC-D3.
I've seen the excellent articles for both units, but has anyone fitted the
Pioneer
equipment themselves yet?
I'd also be interested to know the views either way of fitting a non-
Porsche
unit.
David
Welcome to the CC. Here is one thread you might want to read while waiting for someone to respond who has the unit.
http://www.planet-9.com/cayman-electronics/10143-pioneer-avic-d3.html
(and there are a few more and you can find them in the electronics forum or by searching)
(By the way we have Boxster forums as well that you might want to participate in also)
Yes be sure to add yourself to the
Boxster
group via the control panel - group memberships!
Thanks for the advice guys. It's occurred to me that a further distinct advantage of fitting the
Pioneer
is that I don't need a
Porsche
dealer to activate it.
I've found the articles and can see that the installation is by no means straightforward, is definitely achievable. However one guy did recommend anyone considering it to use an installer.

I'm looking at the AVIC-D3 aswell, looks like audio66.co.uk have the best deal on the unit (including blue tooth and
ipod
cable) they also offer FREE fitting.
Where are you in the UK? I heard good things about the audio66 branch in Crawley.
Can you PM to let me know how much you pay for the unit etc?
Thanks
Tim.
