So, this may seem like a minor complaint - and I haven't tested it extensively, so my complaint may be unwarranted. But here it is anyway. I dug around and found an old MP3 CD that I had burned sometime back and threw it in my CD player. The CD has maybe 10 or 12 folders, each representing an album or EP. First off, when I choose track selection as "Random" it resets everytime I turn off the ignition and re-start the car ... if I want to continue to listen to the tracks in random mode, I have to re-select that mode (sorta weak). What is worse is that player regularly (within 2 or 3 tracks) picks up on the SAME track everytime and from there proceeds to play the exact same sequence of tracks - EVERY TIME, WITHOUT FAIL. Typical Scenario: I get in, start the car & begin to drive. 2 tracks later, I realize that the player has reverted to playing tracks in order - so, I select "Random" mode. 1 - 2 tracks later, a specific track plays, followed by seemingly random tracks ... tracks from different folders on the CD, played out of order - I am happy. 30 minutes later, I arrive at my destination, get out of the car. Come back to the car, start her up and relive this scenario, over and over and over, ad nauseam. Anyone else have this problem? Can Porsche flash the system with some type of software/firmware re-write? This is pretty weak, really. Maybe I should try various MP3 CD's - so far, I've only tried this one. Lastly, sorry if this has already been addressed in detail.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

As a programmer I always find this kind of thing frustrating - give me the source and I'll have it fixed in a hour, but I can't get the source, so ARGH.

My PCM exhibits the exact same behavior with an MP3 CD. Random seems to be a predefined sequence. By any chance, did you have a playlist file (.m3u) file on the CD?
I just bought my Cayman two weeks ago and currently the only complaint I have about the car is that the radio/CD/CD changer is very non-Porsche. It is like that part of the car was farmed out to some third party. It is not well designed or user friendly. The random mode is just as you have described it. It sucks. Did you ever find out if there was a software fix for this? The CD changer also does not play MP3's. What is up with that!
PCM ain't no iPod.
CD Changer will not play MP3s, only the PCM head unit does. My solution to all of these problems was to purchase an iPOD and the Dension gateway. Not perfect, but a significant improvement.
Yeah, finally got my CS, and yeah, the randomizer is a complete turd with an MP3 CD like you say (haven't tried a regular CD, it is probably not as noticeable). My MP3 CDs are just burned flat with no playlist. Again I wonder if the software version for the Bose is flashable somehow. As a programmer I always find this kind of thing frustrating - give me the source and I'll have it fixed in a hour, but I can't get the source, so ARGH. It shouldn't take more than 100 bytes of memory to implement a proper random shuffle, and you could store the current sequence in flash RAM in about 32 bytes (I'd think they would have 32 bytes free?!) so it doesn't reset. So I have to listen to my MP3 CDs in order, which drives me nuts. I'm going to try to take someone elses suggestion of burning the files in random order, just have to find some burner software that will let me do that (they all want to sort my files alphabetically, argh!).
