Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I replaced both 5 years ago with a new pair from my local OPC.

Suggestion
I would unplug and reconnect the connections on the horn which could help restore operation, failing that, disconnect the operational horn to stop it sounding, have someone activate the horn circuit and tap the inoperative horn with a mid sized spanner or similar which may bring it back to life.
Leading evidence: 'Replace 5 years ago' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Disconnect operational horn' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

So even if 'repaired' they'll still corrode again.

I think my chosen path would be to buy new Bosch units and whip the bumper off and replace the old ones.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Kingston, I see no flaw whatsoever in your approach to the practicalities in relation to resolving the horn issue, and seldom used horns seem more likely to fail than those used a tad more often..?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well it seems like one of my horns has, once again given up the ghost.
I replaced both 5 years ago with a new pair from my local OPC. I guess they are in an exposed position and likely to be getting the worst of the weather.
However I thought it worth asking if anyone had any advice on more long lasting and suitable replacements?
I would unplug and reconnect the connections on the horn which could help restore operation, failing that, disconnect the operational horn to stop it sounding, have someone activate the horn circuit and tap the inoperative horn with a mid sized spanner or similar which may bring it back to life. In general I suspect that lack of use is that which kills horns as the internal electrical contacts can corrode.
Good luck. :thumb:
If your going to all that trouble to remove the bumper, why not just fit new ones or ones like the hella's?
From my understanding, water gets inside the horns snail design and corrodes them that way. So even if 'repaired' they'll still corrode again.

Being an old guy I was brought up by those of the make do and mend generation, who had to learn how things worked in order to attempt to repair them given replacements were either unavailable or unaffordable, which is a whole lot different from more recent times when components are designed to be built by robotic means never to be taken apart in an attempt at repair, but just replaced...?
Despite modern manufacturing techniques, it seems there are still those who have a desire to know how things work and find some sort of challenge in attempting to repair them..? Whatever floats one`s boat.. :?:
Thanks for all the useful information everyone :thumb:
Much as I do enjoy an air horn, they seem slow in initial operation and, perhaps most importantly, don't sound very Teutonic
The Hella units get a little bit of a mixed review on the Scoobie forum ( have you seen how much the mounting 'moustache' costs for fitting them to a Subaru, wow!!!)
I think my chosen path would be to buy new Bosch units and whip the bumper off and replace the old ones. Then see if I can refurb the outgoing units then pop them onto a well known online auction site... as they say on Wheeler Dealers.... that or Spock :floor:
