Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all,
Is there a standard gap from the top of the standard tailpipe to the bodywork, for healthy engine mounts?
Mine don't look as low as some I see, but I just wondered if there was a tell-tale sign they need replacing.
My car had knackered engine mounts. The biggest sign I could feel was the shunting coming in or off the throttle. With decent mounts there is none of that.
Exhaust tips can be adjusted so are not the ideal way of checking!
easy to check them. support the engine with a jack from underneath and remove the airbox to take a look
if they look like this the they need replacing*
*old ones, not the shiny RSS replacements
Basic rule of thumb ..
If the tailpipes are approx 2 inches lower than the apron .. bumper .. pu .. whatever you want to call it
then they have probably dropped .
If there is no history of them ever being replaced then they will have dropped or as i say collapsed .
If no history of exhaust work where the tail pipes have been moved in their position then they have collapsed .
In extreme cases they will spit and dump a small amount of black oily tar in that area .. it's something that can happen when we drop engines on these .. the turning force of a corroded bolt splits them open .
For me and to check ...
Car on a ramp .. look upwards and inside the engine mount .. if there is a 5mm gap or more between the rubber and the base of the ally housing then they are ok .. often they are sitting flush and that's a dropped engine mount .
The difference in handling with a new set and i can't say .. it's going to be better but as a non owner and only doing 4-5 mile road tests i don't know the true feeling .
You have RS alternatives but people / customers have complained of more noise and a harsh feel .. i only recommend Porsche items though .. i think everyone knows that by now :floor:
Diy and you need a trolly jack and a few tools .. 2/10 for a diy job .
The only difficulty is if the tail pipes have been adjusted with a dropped mount .. the clamp will need replacing and it's a bit of a faff to line them up correctly .
Just had some Rennline adjustable mounts put on mine and the transformation was amazing wasn't sure on condition of mine beforehand and my car is a 99 and has done 66k.
I've just put RSS mounts on mine to cure an unpredictability from the rear end in bumpy corners.

Type911 in Beckenham do a kit for reasonable money and they are easy to fit. I am very pleased with the change and if they have a few miles on them, the mountings are almost a service item
