Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

It's a problem that is intermittent but probably getting more frequent - a key battery change has made no difference.
Leading evidence: 'Replace has made no difference' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace has made no difference' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Is there a simple reset I can do or is it a garage job?

My C4 does that from time to time though not because I have to use the key in the door because of a lay up, the alarm will simply not disarm with the key every now and again.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

It's a problem that is intermittent but probably getting more frequent - a key battery change has made no difference.
Evening. As a new member and owner of my first Porsche I need a little help with my un responsive central locking on my 2000 C4.
I haven't driven it for a few weeks so expected the alarm to have switched itself off. Usually this just needs a turn of the key and a blip to turn off the alarm as it activates.
This time however the alarm went off and only switched off after repeated blipping of the key.
Ok but now the car is locked on the passenger door, luggage compartment and filler cap. The central locking doesn't work but the car can be opened and locked with the key and driven. The alarm / immobiliser light flashes on the dash.
Is there a simple reset I can do or is it a garage job?
Apart from that I've loved every minute of the car so far.
Thanks in advance,
Paul
This sounds a bit odd. You say that you hadn't driven the car for a few weeks; how does the battery seem? Do you keep it on a trickle charger? It's probably a long shot but could it be that the battery is a bit depleted and the electrical system doesn't like the lack of amps?
I only mention this as I know that the 996's do start to behave strangely when the amp/hourage falls below certain levels - ie. the windows partially drop, the rear spoiler deploys, etc and the car generally goes a bit hatstand. I'm just wondering whether your battery has lost some of its power and is upsetting the electrics - something that you could easily find out by just attaching a battery charger and seeing what sort of charge that it's trying to put in to the battery. If the charge is down then I would say that the fault will resolve itself following a good (slow) charge.
Please don't fall in to the same trap as I did a few years back - thinking that simply driving the car around would give the battery the charge that it needed. It didn't, and I eventually ended up having to buy a new battery

an alternator! [

All the best. Be nice to hear how you get on.
Adrian.
My C4 does that from time to time though not because I have to use the key in the door because of a lay up, the alarm will simply not disarm with the key every now and again. When I open the car with the key to disarm and switch ignition on, all but the drivers door stay locked. I can resolve it by locking and unlocking the door with the key again. It's a problem that is intermittent but probably getting more frequent - a key battery change has made no difference.
Thanks both of you for the advice. Not been home enough to try either but will do so on Monday and let you know if it's fixed.
Glad I joined up to PCGB now!
