Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello everyone. I just found out that someone scrached my passenger door. It's over 30 inch... I could feel the scratch with my finger tip. However, it's not too deep... I tried with Scratch X from Meguiar but it did not work.. I read in forum that try to use 3M rubbing compound.. Please let help if you had similar situation. Thank you very much.

POST 2Original post

Post a detailed close up of it and also let me know if it is only in the clear coat or also through the paint. Can you see the metal or primer?

POST 3Original post

If it's in the paint the only way to take it back to the way it was is to repaint the door.

POST 4Original post

Yes, but often it is not. My partner's Escalade was keyed this weekend on the driver's door. He thinks it needs to be painted but I looked at it today and can fix it with wet sanding and buffing in under an hour! It'll buff like new!

POST 5Original post

your a watch freak? do you have any breitlings to sell me?

POST 7Original post

boxster2003, sorry about your misfortune....you seem very calm though... I would be LIVID!!!

POST 8Original post

good idea with the 3M fine cut and rubbing compound. I think they sell it at Pepboys or autozone over here on the east coast. Get some painter's blue tape from Home Despot and tape on either side of the scratch. clean with dawn maybe even clay it. Get it clean clean clean. Try the rubbing compound and fine cut. Best to do this at night under some flood lights or pick up a fluroscent lamp. if this doesn't work you might have to get some of that 2000 grit sand paper and try the wet sanding Stryke refered to. I doubt a scratch that long (sounds like vandalism?) was applied with too much pressure. Mid America Motorworks sells parking lot door protectors which help avoid accidental scratches. I always park about a block away from any store or movie theater etc.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you for your help. The scratch was about 12 inch.. not 30 inch.. I don't think scratch is not too deep.... I used NXT wax and it looked better... I am going to use 3M products this weekend. If you have any other opinion let me know. Thank you.

POST 10Original post

Yes, we sell this product but it is used primarily to protect against door dings. It's basically a long magnetic rubber strip that you slap on your doors if you are parked in a crowded lot and then remove before you drive. Unfortunately, it wont protect your car from idiots that think it's cool to key cars.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi. I tried the 3M rubbing compound and it woked very well. The scratch is still there but it's not really noticeable. I bought it from Wal-Mart for around $10. I hightly recommend for anyone with scratch. Thank you.
