I bought these on Ebay
and finally got around to installing them. Took just over 2 hours. The Cayman must be the easiest car in the world to install headers. The change in the exhaust note was an improvement. There is less low end rumble in the cabin. The power band changed quite a bit. The car pulls away from a stop much more responsively. With the stock exhaust, I always felt that the engine required more rpm's to start from a dead stop than it should, like there was a slight dead spot or dip in the lower torque curve. Now the engine pulls from about 1500 rpm with better power and much less clutch slippage necessary.
The CEL didn't come on until after driving almost 25 miles, but the power and driveability are worth it. I'll see if the Open Flash tablet can turn off the CEL.
I am taking delivery of my 2012 Cayman base 2.9 on Monday. The only down side I had during my test drives was the sound of the exhaust, and not much low down torque. Are the Schnell headers catless?, or high flow cats? Have you also changed the cat back exhaust to an aftermarket variety?
Thanks,
Ken
There are 2 cats in the stock manifolds and 2 cats in the mufflers as well. I replaced the exhaust last summer, then decided to order the headers. I currently have no cats. The Schnell exhaust made a significant improvement in the torque and the headers made another significant improvement. I'm very satisfied with the final results. The car drives much better and the exhaust sound is just right; not too loud, not too quiet.
it is def the easiest to install headers.
let me know if you hear a "leak type" sound.. make sure the windows are down and your parked next to a wall...
mine always sounded like i had an exhaust leak.. But it wasnt a leak. Just the way the headers amplified what was already there.
I heard it at low rpm starting off..
Let me know... Thanks
Adam, pretty sure that Brian has moved on, last word he was owning a 911 Touring. If you have a gasket exhaust made of fiber, then you most likely have a leak. The steel ones that are OEM are best in both places, between the engine and header and between the header and tail pipe.
