Do anyone know if the OpenFlash Tablet is able to read the TPC map that is flashed into the ECU with their turbo kit?
Waiting for the answer from OFT, in the meantime hopefully there is any experience on this forum regarding this, as I read some vendors lock their flash, in which case it won't be able to be read.
Need to solve this with extreme URGENCY as my car didn't pass emissions for excessive CO, and I have 26 days to solve it (just importing OFT here will take 20 days at least).
I sent them an email about 2 years ago when I was thinking about going this route. Here is the response I got:
“The OFT can handle the task of reading and writing the new performance program to your ECU.
Your local calibrator will be able to manipulate the programming as they see fit, to safely operate your engine. It is ultimately up to them to safely develop and employ appropriate tuning strategies.
We've never had a need to upgrade injectors (or change other fueling hardware to that extent) because we've never worked with a turbo
987.1
.
You'll be going full custom on this project! With that, you'll be met with limitations that your on-site calibrator may need to identify, brainstorm, and resolve independently.
The OFT can certainly re-program your ECU with any tune files you or your calibrator create!”

Thanks James, from the response they gave you it seems it would be able to.... but on the other hand cr@p!, I just read that OFT has two methods of reading an existing ECU map, an ACTUAL and a VIRTUAL, and
987.1
is listed as using the VIRTUAL method, and this means that reading the ECU just reads the "ecu data" (just the mapping section) and you need to manually provide the complete ROM (in which format, raw dump?) for it to be able to reflash the ECU. Do I ask TPC for it? is their format compatible with OFT?
Jeez, I feel they are pushing from every side, the government with their stupid and corrupt laws (and for everything they ask money), the postmail office is closed and "on sale" because of the corrupt administration almost wipe out of the whole mail agency (so for the moment there is no sound way to import goods here, at least until it is sold to a private company on December), no where in the whole country to bring the car to fix this issue (the only dealer in the country probably not willing to touch a modified car, and worst, probably they won't know where to start with the TPC kit), and now the only alternative to at least bring the fuel mappings down (at least until a proper fix is find for the excessive fueling) the OFT tool seems that is not able to read and manipulate the current ECU.
Sorry for the rant, but seriously I'm really close to the edge....
I had a TPC kit installed back in 2010 and wasn't satisfied with the TPC tune. Consequently, I got a custom tune from the shop that did the TPC kit installation. The owner received his chip tuning training in Italy from
Dimsport
. He used Dimsport's Genius to read the file and to download the custom tune (he manipulated the file on his laptop). This doesn't help solve your dilemma...just wanted the forum to know that I had the TPC tuning altered.
Do you remember if he was able to download the existing ECU file using only the ODB2 port?
OpenFlash Tablet guy say that is not possible to read over ODB2 and the only way to get the ECU contents is directly from the ECU pins (that means a ROM reader is needed)
Sorry, but as this was done over 10 years ago, I really don't remember. After dropping off the car, I vaguely remember stopping by the shop once and peeked into the office and saw the technician working on my file on his laptop. When I returned to pick up the car, the tech was downloading the file on to the car using the Dimsport Genius tablet.
As 808 said, it is possible to modify the TPC tune and it’s probably even recommended as they send a generic tune that works for everyone.
It’s a different company for different cars, but UpRev has a very similar product that used the stock ECU and could tune for turbos.
As far as I know OFT can be used for what you want but it will really depend on the variables in the tune from TPC and the stock parts / ECU. For instance timing can be controlled but only to the limits of your cams and the ECU. OFT can use modified injectors on other platforms like the Subaru so it can definitely control it, but the problem is that our community just hasn’t adopted it enough for the information to get out. One thing I noticed when I got my
987.1
BS was just the utter lack of DIY forums and people getting dirty.
Do you have a copy of the TPC tune already? You don’t use use OFT other than to flash, the modifications of the ROM file is through RomRaider or another program.

Yes, I do have a copy of the TPC tune flash file, but sadly it is in .xtt format and this seems to be a Softronics encrypted file format. I suppose we can tap into the k lines at the ODB2 port and then reflash this file so we can sniff the packets and grab the raw flash data from it.
I have all the information now, and NO, OFT (nor any other flash tool, including Softronics) can't read our ECUs. We have a Bosh Motronics ME 7.8.1, and supposedly there is no way to read flash memory or eeprom from OBD2. We need to put the ECU in boot mode and then read the flash memory directly from the ECU pins, it seems that a Galletto 4 is all we need to read the ECU's memory. After that we would need the DAMOS file to map the tables (and reflash with Galletto), or just use OFT so they can apply their existing table mapping and reflash with OFT again.
What I found, but is not really conclusive, is a reference that KESS V2 (but a clone, from Asia) is able to read BOSCH ME7.8 from the ODB2, great if that is the case, sadly no way to purchase anything from Asia at least until December or
next
year at least
