Mine broke some years ago, I just crimped a new connector on the end of the stripped/cleaned wires.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

While doing some cleaning and replacing seal on cam solenoid I noticed there were 3 brown wires loose near the plug for the solenoid. It seems that the connection has rusted away that held them to the engine block. I think it's the brown wires attached to the shiny bolt/plate between the red and yellow arrows in this stock image. I guess it's an earth but any idea what for? Could this be a reason why the revs aren't stable when taking foot off accelerator?

POST 2Original post

dodgy earths can affect all sorts, looks easy enough to sort? you should tell instantly if this helps, the tickover Cheers Nick

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, I'm ordering new clip from Porsche tomorrow to reattach to block, access isn't great but whatever it is I'm guessing it was there for a reason!

POST 5Original post

If I remember tomorrow I'll see if I can figure out from the wiring diagram what they are for. But as said, they are there for a reason so a good chance it will help to have them back on. MC

POST 6Original post

They're ims anti-static straps to prevent your bearing exploding if you touch the engine. :coat:

POST 7Original post

Looks like they are the earths for the high tension side of ignition coils. MC

POST 8Original post

Mine broke some years ago, I just crimped a new connector on the end of the stripped/cleaned wires.
