Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The books and videos I’ve been using as instructions all have the spring loaded cable ends already installed (picture A), which appear to be very easy to “pop out.” As you can see in the picture, mine are different and I’m not sure how to remove them correctly.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I am installing a short shifter on my 08 Boxster S , and I’ve run into an issue. The books and videos I’ve been using as instructions all have the spring loaded cable ends already installed (picture A), which appear to be very easy to “pop out.” As you can see in the picture, mine are different and I’m not sure how to remove them correctly. It looks like I’d have to loosen one or two of the nuts. Which brings me to my second issue. I bought the spring loaded cable ends, as it was recommended to replace them during this mod, but it looks like the cable shifter widens a bit at the end (picture C) in order to snap into the cable ends. It doesn’t appear that the shifter cables on mine widen so I don’t think they would snap into the new cable ends... Hopefully that all makes sense, and sorry if this is just me being dumb. I’m not a car guru by any means but this project seemed easy enough to tackle myself. It’s just that ALL the videos and instructions I’ve seen have the spring loaded cable ends already installed so I’m wondering why mine is different. Any help/insight would be appreciated! Thank you!

POST 2Original post

You have Numeric Racing shifter cables. Lots and lots of info on this forum if you search Numeric . Also Go to Numericracing.com for more info. These are the shift cables most owners use to replace broken or worn standard Porsche Shift Cables.

POST 3Original post

Yeah, you just need to loosen the big nuts at the bottom to remove the Numeric cables from the assembly. The Numeric cable ends are part of the cable and don't have the spring-loaded cable end parts. The left cable you should be able to just slide off the post on the shift mechanism. The right cable has a metal cup that has a plastic insert and then snaps onto a ball on the shift mechanism: on this side you may damage the plastic insert when you pop it off and might need a new one to reinstall. Numeric probably sells these separately? I know my cables came with extras. I *think* I'm remembering all this right but it's been a while...

POST 4Original post

The left cable has a torx screw holding it in, number 20? Those cables are the best you can get. I would not change them but I would definitely change the crappy stock shift mechanism for a Numeric shifter . I just installed mine and it's deluxe. Oh crap, this is a year old...
