Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

Managed to re-use the foam cover and also noticed that the new matrix didn't come with the seal on, so removed the one from the original and used that.
Leading evidence: 'Use foam cover and also noticed' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Use foam cover and also noticed' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Earlier on this year (in a galaxy far far away) I was getting a bit of a coolant wiff from the air vents when the heat was cranked up. Obviously the heater matrix was on it's way out and needed replacing. Due to being flat out with work, getting hacked off with doing repairs on the drive and losing my sense of smell it's been put off until recently I've started getting steamy windows (tell tale sign the matrix is goosed).
Thanks to various posters and plenty of photos on here I tackled it yesterday as I've now space in my new unit to drive my car in and work indoors, plus all my tools/machines are there too incase the :splat:
All in, took me 3 hours of leisurely working through it and £54 delivered for a new Diederichs heater matrix, although price does vary slightly on a day to day basis:

Managed to re-use the foam cover and also noticed that the new matrix didn't come with the seal on, so removed the one from the original and used that. Also - bit of a struggle getting the matrix past the aircon pipe but doable by bending the pipe forward. Also - good trick off Mistercorn - pour the coolant out the old matrix into the new one and top up with extra water if needed to minimise the amount of air left in the system once completing the job.
Took some photos along the way for reference:
Original matrix - notice the pink coolant in the fins - obviously leaking:
Cavity where the matrix sits - notice coolant residue in here too:
Bulkhead stripped back:
New heater matrix (with no seal round the top:
The original seal reused on the new matrix:
Nice work, it's not too bad is it? I see you managed to get it past the AC pipe too, it's a squeeze but manageable and saves removal and degas/regas. I noted the occasional smell of coolant in the weeks following which seems to have gone, not sure whether that related to residual coolant sitting around from the initial leaky matrix (or in the process of changing them) which has now evaporated? Hopefully my condensers are ok otherwise.
