Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

HI all First of all let me just say I am ham fisted and I dont want to break anything so here goes: My new to me 996 coupe has visors in place that are missing the visor mirror covers. The pins are there on both sides. The little tab that illuminates the visors are in place and function. I order the below from Amazon and I am having a terrible time inserting them to the point I am concerned I will snap something. Amazon.com: Replacement Sunvisor Vanity Mirror Cover for Porsche 996, 997, 987 Boxster, Cayman : Automotive Amazon.com: Replacement Sunvisor Vanity Mirror Cover for Porsche 996, 997, 987 Boxster, Cayman : Automotive I then watched this youtoob video and the guy's using some aftermarket thing with flex which doesnt feel like mine ... mine are more rigid so I am asking those of you who have done this before... is there an easier way?

POST 2Original post

I ordered mine from a different vendor (and fortunately they came without the warning label): Amazon Amazon Popped one in the other night without any issue. Now if anyone has a recommendation for removing the warning label from the vinyl, it'd be much appreciated.

POST 3Original post

Goo Gone seems to work pretty well on those labels.

POST 4Original post

I recently replaced both of mine, got themon eBay (unfortunately with the warning label...they appear genuine Porsche). Popped them both in by inserting one end, then nervously flexing the entire cover enough to pop the other end in.

POST 5Original post

with anything plastic, make sure it isn't cold. It will be less flexible and more brittle. Put it someplace warm (like on a heat vent or something) for a few hours, and then try it.

POST 6Original post

I got rid of the warning labels on mine my soaking a paper towel with alcohol(not dripping wet) and placing it over the decal with something heavy on top for about 10-15 minutes, then scrubbing lightly with a magic eraser. Came right off!

Credit is due in the turbo forum. Surprised there was still stock available. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-turb...sor-cover.html

I got the complete replacements a couple of years ago, which require wiring which I just didn't feel like taking on. Now it will be easier with just a cover. I have to wait for a hot day when the plastic becomes flexible. Fat chance for anytime soon in Chicago.

POST 10Original post

I printed one from an STL file I found out about here. You might want to do a search on 3D printable files. Our local libraries have 3D printers and all you need is some filament and the file.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks yall - Ill try heating them and seeing if they have some flex to them

POST 12Original post

just bought the Amazon replacements. pretty close to originals. The original clearly has some fading, but I wonder if it was ever as bright white as the replacements

POST 13Original post

Installed! As documents in reviews, they need to be filed down about 1 or 2 millimeters on each side to fit properly. If you look very closely, you can see that some some filing too place to make it fit, but I think thats well worth the ~$60 cost saving EACH relative to buying the OEM versions. they look original, feel much sturdier, and the light now works again!

POST 14Original post

The original cover cracked from age. I got some inexpensive Amazon replacements. They snapped into place with some persuading using a plastic trim tool (that came with the visors). No filing needed although in retrospect, that would helped slide it in easier.

POST 16Original post

Left the visor in the son for 20min and i was able to bend it into place on my car.
