Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • 911uk: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

a quick post that may help others. I had a lazy start, which was embarrassing at BP when it took a few turns to crank it up. All sorted now and it was the earth from battery to starter. £70 parts + labour. Hope this helps. Chris

POST 2Original post

Hi Chris, Brilliant! I had a similar experience outside Greggs last week, I will look into this asap! Many thanks Mark

POST 3Original post

it may do.. can you recall the part number for this one ?

POST 4Original post

Earth from battery? The starter usually earths through the engine / body via an earth strap between them. As far as I'm aware no earth cable from starter to battery?

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ha, yeah i'm not that mechanically - minded, but it was some wire from battery to starter. it was a Porsche-only part. Mechanic definitely mentioned earth though. I hope it helps to point someone in the right direction if they get a similar problem, anyway. its certainly solved the problem. cheers

POST 6Original post

It will be the main positive battery feed to the starter solenoid. This is starting to become a problem on the 996; the cable corrodes internally and slowly reduces the current delivered to the starter. Don't ignore it as I did - one day it will simply stop delivering anything to the starter

POST 7Original post

I'll be doing this very job tomorrow before Brands Hatch Sunday. When I had the engine out before I replaced these cables with some made up leads. That appears to have developed high resistance when hot. I have a spare oem y-cable to fit. Yes, its a common fault with age of car.
