Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
It's unlikely to be dmf but not impossible as the load inertia changes when the clutch is pressed.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

On the way home tonight the car developed a horrible loud clicking that sounds like some form of contact that speeds up with the car, If you press the clutch in or put in neutral it disappears
Sounds expensive which is a ball ache but its my daily and I need to get it sorted.
Does this sound a familar sound for the more mechanicaly minded?
How big a job labour wise is the DMF for a specialist?
If it goes when the clutch is pressed it will be gearbox related as everything else is still turning. I'm sure someone has had this exact problem before and can shed light. It's unlikely to be dmf but not impossible as the load inertia changes when the clutch is pressed. De Mort might know exactly what's causing it.
If you could post a sound clip it would help a lot .. noises can be a pain to diagnose when the car is in the workshop , let alone on a forum ..
Email me if you can't post it ..

usual test .. accelerate the car .. noise there .. coast .. is the noise still there .. going down a hill on high over run .. is the noise there ..
These are basic gearbox diff checks .. diffs make noises on acc or overrun usually .
DMF .. to test you try to drive the car at very low rpm ( 4-500 ) , almost stalling .. does the car judder like .. er .. well judder a lot !
Unlikely to be this to be honest .
Clutch release bearing is what i'm hoping for but a bit concerned the noise goes when in neutral .. that's not normal for a release bearing .
Clicking is also associated with driveshaft cv joints .. have a look and make sure a cv gaiter hasn't split and its dumped all its grease .
If the op hadn't said it disappeared when the clutch was pressed I would have said CV joint. Release bearing usually makes a noise when clutch pressed in my experience. Not contradicting in the slightest, just kicking ideas about
Is the noise there stationary on idle? Push the clutch in with your hand, get to the biting point and you'll feel whether the DMF is rattling. DMF is usually noticeable at idle and low revs but this sounds release bearing (concentric slave cylinder)
