I use a spray bottle on the slats and carefully avoid hosing them when washing the car.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

I just read up on what "desnorking" is and was wondering if you guys have to be super careful when you give your car a wash around that intake vent. Sheesh I thought those side vents were rear air ducts for the brakes. Is it the same on the 997?

POST 2Original post

If you have de-snorked the Cayman you probably don't want to squirt water directly into the motor's intake. The 997 doesn't have side vents like the Cayman - the motor's air intake is on the back engine lid, and like all 911s can take quite a bit of water into the rear grill without any problems - otherwise you couldn't drive the 997 in the rain. brad

POST 3Original post

I don't stick the nozzle up inside the vent but otherwise I don't pay any special care as the air intake box has its own drain if something does find its way up in there around the 90 degree right turn and into the airbox.

POST 4Original post

I use a spray bottle on the slats and carefully avoid hosing them when washing the car. Russ

POST 5Original post

If you have ever looked at you air filter and seen the airbox, you can see that it would be very difficult to direct spray in through the vents, up a 90 degree bend, and then to the right on another 90 degree bend. If you squirt water straight in and slightly up you may have a few drops reach you air filter. You would really have to try. If you rinse your car with a nromal shower and keep it at or above the level of the vent while you rinse, you'll be ok. I have mesh installed on the back side of the grill which will difuse any stream as well.

POST 6Original post

Would one of those automated "brushless" car washes cause problems? I think they squirt water horizontally.

POST 7Original post

I wash mine every week, and I don't pay any special attention to the vents. No problems in the last 6 months or so anyway.

POST 8Original post

Hi, pulled into a car wash yesterday. asked manager if my CS would pass over rails. he checked and said NO. Can you wash CS in car wash. Although I love my Cayman , It is still a car that needs washing and because of my frugality, ( comes with being over 60) I have a difficult time paying $15 for hand wash. So far been washing myself, but winter coming quickly.
