Swamp, are the rivets reusable, or do you have to get new ones when replacing the lips?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Changed my spoiler lip color to Titanium Metallic. It is a more subtle shade than the aluminum stock as you can see from the comparison pics. I think the Titanium complements my Cobalt CS better and even takes on highlights from the Cobalt in bright light. Perfect match to the headlight rims and other parts. Total cost: about $95 (includes new OEM lips, rivets, and paint).
do you have any before / after pics? i´d like to see the direct difference on the car.
ps. what did you need to paint? i thought the lips were just clip-ons?
Spoiler lips
Nick664:
Check out my gallery pictures. The new titanium lips are labeled. The other have the original lips. All I had to paint were the lips themselves. They are attached by plastic rivets. Pushing the center pin in the rivet up releases the rivet. Just pull the rivets down and then the lip can be pulled (with some care) away from the bumper. Replacement is the reverse and a breeze.

No, I hadn't really considered it. But now that I see
Stevie's
pics I may have to reconsider. They look nice.
Crocrr:
Thanks.
Hmm... looks mighty close in color to Seal Gray/Meteor Gray.
Are these available direct from Porsche or were they custom painted? Where did you buy?
Thanks,
Brad
Lip change
I purchased stock black lips from Porsche of New Orleans ($32 each) and a Titanium Metallic can of spray paint from PaintScratch.com and did it myself. I put on a coat of clearcoat to give some sheen and stuck them back on the car. Took a few days of right temps and humidity for the paint but other than that the job was straitforward and easy. If you bought from Porsche direct = big bucks. I'm going to respray the original lips in Cobalt a soon as it warms up a bit to see how that looks as well.
Resprayed the spare lips in Cobalt from Paintscratch.com. The job came out beautifully but the paint is a shade too dark. I will try again with paint from
www.automotivetouchup.com
to see is they can get it right. Hope so.
Marty,
They are reusable. The trick is recovering the center pin of the rivet after you push it up into the bumper bodywork. After pushing all the center pins up and removing the rivets, remove the spoiler lip and tap gently at the holes where the rivets were, the pins should roll out onto the garage floor by force of gravity. If you lose one or two, they are very inexpensive___35 cents each at your dealership. I keep extras just in case.
FYI guys I just called Porsche of New Orleans and ordered a set of these from John. $34/ea and I got the 6 rivets along with them.
I'm going to have my body shop paint them Seal Gray when they re-clear my front fascia. I am also having them paint the foglight surrounds in a matte black like the surrounding plastic. I'll post pictures when it's done!
Brad
I had some minor problems with a clear-bra install that went sour. Razor blade cuts in the clearcoat in a few areas. The shop is covering all repair at my body shop of choice.
I think the front bumper repair is $715 (which the tint/clearbra shop is paying), and they're charging me like $40 or $50 bucks to prep/paint the lips body color and clearcoat. The foglight surrounds are getting painted like the silver TechArt car--matte/flat black to match the plastic in the front grille openings. I want to take focus away from the foglight surrounds.
I also might have them take off my side scoops and paint the horizontol lines black so that all you see are the vertical gills.
