Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi All I have recently bought a 2001 996 which was fine until the engine light came on and i lost power. The car seemed like it was misfiring. I turn the engine off and tried to restart it but the oil check light count down was 2 minutes instead of the normal 10 second. I waited until the count down was completed and started the car but the probelm was still there. I checked the engine compartment and noticed the air intake pipe was loose. Once i tighted it the engine light went off and car was ok. A few days later the same thing happened again but the air intake pipe was ok. I left the car standing for an hour and came back to start it up and it was OK. I'm really confused??? Does anyone know what the problem could be? Thanks Jedi

POST 2Original post

My guess is coil pack failure & the air intake pipe is nothing to do with it, just coincidence. Once the EML has lit up a code(s) will have stored, this need to be read to put you in the right area of fault.

POST 3Original post

Hi The longer oil countdown is normal if you turn the engine off and ignition back on. It could be one of many things but the first thing to do is have the DME fault memory checked. Grant
