Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Guys, I am considering a new soft top for my 996,at the moment the rear window is Plastic,I have received quotes for a hood with a glass rear window and also a plastic rear window and the hood with the glass window is much cheaper. Will the glass window be compatible or will I have to go for the Plastic :?: Cheers PJE 1999-996 Cab

POST 2Original post

Isn't this age/facelift related? I have a 2000 car with the plastic window, and I think later cars have the glass. My plastic window folds in half when the soft top is down, so I'm guessing I couldnt replace it with a glass version as glass doesnt like to fold in half. TBH, the fitter should know the score shouldnt they? Also - why are you replacing it? If its just dirty or needs some TLC, Renovo products are marvellous. I use the cleaner and sealer on mine annually and it returns the hood to looking like new - water beading and everything. If its just the plastic that has faded then that is more tricky to restore, but I think you can get just the plastic panel replaced if needed.

POST 3Original post

The glass heated rear window is a full retrofit including the hood itself. It's aftermarket either by GAHH in the US or BAS International in South Wales. It will cost around £1200 fitted. The glass window on it's own can't be fitted to the existing pre-facelift hood. For info, neither can the facelift OE Porsche hood be fitted to a pre-facelift car without replacing the entire mechanism (try £3k+ fitted). Having said that, the aftermarket options make that unnecessary anyway. IMHO, having just sold a pre-facelift Cab, I would go down the GAHH/BAS route and pay extra. It also saves you having to worry about the hardtop or your rear screen cracking in the cold.
