Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Thanks for the response, but my issue is different.
Leading evidence: 'different' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'different' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Repair .html' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I tried recalibrating using Duramtric, but I don't think that function actually works (at least with my 2000).
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I lubed the spots shown in the first diagram and that eliminated the squeaking while opening, but not when closing, and no improvement with the hook.
(See video below)
I added my questions to existing threads but didn't get any responses so I'm starting this new one.
Last week for the first time, the hook that latches the cabriolet top to the front hit the top of the connection point. Upon examination I saw that the outer cover of the hook was disintegrating. I replaced the plastic piece based on this post:

Now the hook briefly hits the top of the receiver, backs off a bit and retries successfully. I tried recalibrating using Duramtric, but I don't think that function actually works (at least with my 2000).
I watched Yogi's Garage @Yogibara videos where he rebuilt the mechanism. I'm wondering if my issue requires a physical calibration. Also, since the Durametric is apparently useless for this would the cheap PIWIS be a better choice for trying to recalibrate it?

Bill, it looks to me like the top is not closing far enough before the Hook tries to draw it down tight ...
Try lubing the hinges ( I hear some creaking) to see if that will help the top close further before attempting to draw down with the hook....It can also be that the fabric has shrunk and is tighter not allowing it to close far enough ...Try wetting the top material thoroughly and placing it in the sun to stretch then apply some Top Conditioner...
As yes the $75 PIWIS will re-calibrate the top and is well worth the cost...
Hi Skip,
I lubed the spots shown in the first diagram and that eliminated the squeaking while opening, but not when closing, and no improvement with the hook. I can't seem to locate the lube points in the second diagram.
Hey Bill, here is a thread with pictures and details,, its for a 997 but the top is almost the same thing ..
