Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
Am not sure how the Cayman and 996 compare when it comes to depreciation and running costs but I would want a 996 before a Cayman
Leading evidence: 'Run costs' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Run costs' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

You will get a lot of car for £ 25,000! Am not sure how the Cayman and 996 compare when it comes to depreciation and running costs but I would want a 996 before a Cayman
Dad is your Porsche a 911?
No son it's a Cayman
What's that then dad?
25k in a 996 is going to be quite a car!
What the probabilty of you sitting in a Cayman as pure Pork passes by and saying to yourself"Glad I didn't buy a 911"
Hope this eases your madness.
:frustrated:
Another vote for the mighty C4s
£25k will get you a very late high spec car, and it wont depreciate that much now due to being hit so hard over the past 18 months.
For your top budget of £25k.
There is only one Porsche I would be looking at 996 C4S - :worship:
But it must have BOSE - Nice colour trim and under 50,000 miles.
how old is too old...i dont wanna be spending maintanence on it all the time..whats wrong with the carrera 2?
Can any one recomend one thats being sold, i.e auto trader/pistonheads?

Personally if funds are a little tight, I would wait a little longer and save for a C4s.
There are so many C2's about, and I personally think they look very dated now, plus come re sale the C4s will always be easy to shitf on if priced right
Don't let the biased c4 owners cloud your judgment.
IMHO
The c2 is the real 996 the revolution in the 911 world.
The c4 was an attempt to rekindle the passion of Porsche owners living in the past trying to add on bits here and bits there to please the Ludites.
It has a stiffer chasis we here and there ends the advancement.
They were going to pop the indicators back in the bumper but they felt that would be a little too far.
Drive them all in your price range
c2
milli
c4
c4s
Hell and even a few choice Turbos.
Then decide what you want not what the next owner may want to buy.
Pass me my tin hat.
PS
If your planning to go off road then there may be a good reason for a c4.
JUST MY OPINION
:fisherman:
I had a Cayman last week while my 911 was in for the Warranty check and the first thing my wife said when I pulled up in it was :
"what is that
"
I thought it was ok, but its no 911.
My friend recently bought a Z4 coupe :floor: :floor:
rather than a cayman.
basically what I am echoing is:
YOU WILL GET A LOVELY 911 (996) for your money. happy hunting :thumb:
