Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Install set' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Install set' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Just had stainless steel manifolds fitted so am itching to put the bypass pipes back on to hear what it sounds like now.

I had mine fitted for a while but removed them for winter.

Suggestion
If that is the case I would recommend taking it to a mechanic to do this for you, if you are not used to using a grinder, it is not worth the risk of maiming yourself to save a few quid!

After that it's a simple case of sliding the bypass pipes over the catalytic converter pipes and using the old clamps to secure them (remember to get new nuts and bolts first if you need to grind the old ones off!).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

We have recently purchased a pair of muffler bypasses but are pretty green when it comes to fitting them, so does anybody have the know-how?
Some guidance on how to fit them would be greatly appreciated!
The main thing I find when removing the back boxes is that height at the back of the car makes it a lot easier, ie, if you have access to a ramp it will make it so much easier, especially if the bolts are corroded and need to be grinded off.
It is possible to remove the mufflers by jacking the car up and probably by removing the adjacent wheel, but I have not done it this way before myself.
I would advise to get down and have a look at the condition of the bolts on the clamps that hold the back box to the catalytic converter (right at the back behind the rear bumper). If they can be freed up with a spanner, then you're in good shape, otherwise they will need to be grinded off. If that is the case I would recommend taking it to a mechanic to do this for you, if you are not used to using a grinder, it is not worth the risk of maiming yourself to save a few quid!
If you get these clamps off ok, it is just a matter of undoing the three nuts that hold the muffler supporting bracket (access these through the manifolds) and the back box should come out ok. Do not bother trying to take out the two long bolts that hold the back box to the supporting bracket, you will not be able to get them out in place!

Then start her up and await the impending ASBO, bleeding ears, hateful neighbours and burberry-clad chavs trying to race you in their imprezas complete with their 7" fart cans!!! Hehe!!!
I will say that these are ridiculously loud to the point that you will start the car and laugh out loud at how loud they are BUT, they do sound heavenly for short blasts at a time. Can get wearing on long journeys as they are very boomy but depends what you use the car for really. I had mine fitted for a while but removed them for winter. Just had stainless steel manifolds fitted so am itching to put the bypass pipes back on to hear what it sounds like now. Should be pant-wetting material I think!
Best of luck and let me know how you get on.............
Nice big write up, thanks for taking the time! I will have access to a ramp, so that should be OK.
I only take the car out at weekends, only when it's sunny, so I reckon being extra-loud would make it the perfect weekend thriller! My 964 Targa had the sports exhaust, so that was loud! Coming from that to the 996 makes the 996 feel a bit soft, so now I'm on a mission to drive a raw car again. The bypasses will help I reckon!
Thanks again! :worship:
