Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Use following link' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'ignition switch itself' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Reset fuse' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

Suspected cause
It's most likely the ignition switch itself, which is on the back of the lock barrel.

Is there anyway of getting the lock mechinism to reset, fuse?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi,
need some help please!.. decided earlier to fire up my car and the key got stuck in the ignition, it feels like the first notch was'nt working when it turns to release.. :dont know:
this one is a tip so it wont let the key out unless it wants to.. I jiggled the steering wheel and the steering lock clicked in after much swearing, so I managed to eventually get it out, when I look down the lock I see something stopping the key going in a more than a few mm.. (a gold lever?)
So is it a new lock?, are they easy to fit diy?, I assume the local OPC can get the right one to match my keys, any idea on price?
In the meantime, I've stuck some WD40 down it, is it worth playing with a screwdriver?!
Cheers

sounds like something inside the iginition switch could be broken/faulty
or
is this an alarm/immobiliser issue ?
if the system is aftermarket, as IIRC there are systems that hold the key in :?
Thanks for the reply, no it's all standard pork, you can only retreive the key if it's in P, you normally hear a microswitch clicking then it releases.. but the barrell seems to be in the lock postition as a gold lever is across the key slit, if only I could get it to flick back!
It's most likely the ignition switch itself, which is on the back of the lock barrel. The switch breaks up inside, and prevents the barrel returning to the position where the key can be retracted. It's a very common problem.
The original switch is an Audi part, and Porsche no longer supply it. Their solution is a complete new barrel. You can still get the old switch from an VW/Audi dealer. I did a DIY for PCGB, and if you would like a copy, drop me a PM with your email address.
problem solved
update Just in case others get the same issue
I managed to sort this DIY today, tried the local Audi dealer they wanted £25 + VAT, 2-3 days, VW could'nt order it, stock restricted?
So called up euro car parts, they had it dropped off a couple of hours later for about £8, Audi part number 4A0905849
