I fitted the silencers myself on my 10 year old car and the whole job took 3 hours.

I have a 2002 C4S in with the OPC being serviced at the moment and they actually commented the cans are fine - the tinware/brackets holding it altogether is another story and is being replaced (£20 + labour) but the cans themselves are OK.

My car's just gone into my OPC for a new clutch this morning, so I'll replace the exhaust with Milltek or Designtek boxes in October.

I've got to replace the silencer boxes on my C4S and may as well put on some fruitier ones.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've spent a fun few hours reading the many & varied posts on sports exhausts.
I've got to replace the silencer boxes on my C4S and may as well put on some fruitier ones.
I'm minded to go for the Oettle ones - has anyone encountered any problems with these and do they present any problems come MOT time?
Are there any other cost-effective alternatives you think I should consider?
Thanks for you help.
Hi Doc,could recomend Milltek rear boxes, around £520 IIRC
last summer.Just a little louder, car rocks and vibrates at stand still
and has a deeper tone.
But the factory switchable one is the system to go for
even if it is 3x price.
Hi Doc
I had a 2005 C4S and had the PSE fitted at Bolton OPC for £1500. It was fantastic and the guys at the dealership were bang on when they said it's one of the best sounding Porsche's once you get the PSE fitted.
You can also remove the relay so that it's louder through the 30-50mph range were it just sounds amazing. I took it to the ring with the PSE fitted with the 911uk boys and they all commented how great it sounded.
On the way back from the ring trip I had a TVR Tuscan (they are loud and fruity) pull up at the side of me in a tunnel and I drowned him out when I floored it
Was all good fun.
Thanks again for the feedback.
My car's just gone into my OPC for a new clutch this morning, so I'll replace the exhaust with Milltek or Designtek boxes in October. Spreads the cost a little and avoids jeapordising my Porsche Warranty.
Thanks & regards,
Mike

Will the Miltek or Designtak not invalidate your warranty? None official Porsche parts? Why not just save for a few months longer and fit the switchable PSE, its a must have.
Hi, why do you need new silencers on a 2004 car? I have a 2002 C4S in with the OPC being serviced at the moment and they actually commented the cans are fine - the tinware/brackets holding it altogether is another story and is being replaced (£20 + labour) but the cans themselves are OK. If yours are rotted already maybe a warranty issue? Aren't they stainless steel?
But if you want a better sound then I can vouch for the PSE system - mine came with it - and like a good wine its matured over the years sounds fantastic and the switch is a nice touch though seldom used.

Yes, an non OEM exhaust will invalidate the warranty, hence why I'm waiting until October when the warranty expires.
Saving's not the issue - I just can't bring myself to spend that sort of money on a PSE. The fear of my wife hitting me on the back of the head with Le Creuset's finest has nothing to do with it...
I'd no problem with the boxes in my last car which was a 2001 car, but I do with this one - something's amiss in the internals. It's not a warranty issue by the way - the exhaust system's excluded.
The PSE sounds the best. But the cost of them! I got the Oettles a year ago and they sound exactly the same as the PSE. They are original Porsche items except with the bypass pipe welded onto it. The original PSE before the system was switchable has the bypass pipe as the Oettles. I fitted the silencers myself on my 10 year old car and the whole job took 3 hours. With the saving I got the Dansk chrome twin pipe tips to finish the job. The original clamps were all rusted so I just cut them off and got new ones from the OPC.
