Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Is anyone familiar with this power kit? Feels like an attempt to recreate the oem x51 with a combination of parts. Im thinking of trying it out price feels reasonable for +25hp they are quoting EVOMSit Performance Software EVOMSit TUNEit Module IPD Competition Plenum Porsche GT3 Throttle Body BMC High Flow Air Filter Kit OPTIONAL ADD-ON: Cargraphic (can take additional 4-6 weeks to manufacture and import from Germany) https://www.sharkwerks.com/power-kit/p45749-sharkwerks-power-kit-for-996-997-carrera-SHAK573

POST 2Original post

Wonder what the Cargraphic Add on is. Full exhaust maybe? I mean if they advertise +25hp its not so bad if you like tinkering with your car. Our NA girls wont make a ton of HP for the price but the increase of smiles per mile is worth it to most of us.

FWIW, save yourself some money and time, get yourself a good set of 200 cell cats. That's where the performance boost comes from. The software improves throttle response on e-gas cars no real power gains. The plenum and TB need headwork and porting to get any performance gains. Don't waste your money on the expensive air filter systems, get yourself an oem air filter and keep it fresh. Hope it helps.

Thanks guys, the car actually came with Fabspeed X-pipe (installed back in 2012). I went down the rabbit hole of exploring engine rebuilds to increase power (FSI, Slakker) this one is a long term keeper. Im probably going to add a 997.2 coupe/TTS to the stable at some point but will also keep this one as my convertible. where my head was at, X51 kit was a real thing that could get you +25hp over stock, if I could just reproduce it on an aftermarket basis, ~350hp for the cars weight is really solid and I already have other performance oriented upgrades such as Ohlins coilovers, swaybar, etc the idea is if I can put this all together for $7-10k that feels better than a new engine which is 4x more

A TTS is nice! I say all of this having most of the mods in that kit with the exception of the tune.

POST 6Original post

Cats, software will get you +10-15 hp. $3,000 for 15. Plenum, tb, cold air intake gets you 0. $1,500 for 0. Good set of equal length ported headers from a reputable shop may get you +5. $2,000 for 5. The +25 number is BS with the parts list you provided, unless you get your heads done in addition to cats, headers, software, plenum & TB. $9,000-11,000 for 25. Focus on your suspension, brake and tire set up, as well as driving lessons and you will have a fast car. I have been chasing the holy grail for 23 years with all the bolt on parts on my 996.2. You can get big power gains, but you will need to spend 35-40k on a rebuild and head work to get it. My best suggestion to you is spend the money on upgrading your exhaust, suspension, brakes, tires for performance now, and do all of the bolt on upgrades (IMSB, UAOS, fresh water pump, etc.) for engine durability that will transfer over to a rebuild when you decide to go hog wild. Then make the rebuild the final icing on the cake. At the end of the day, and good suspension will run you $10k+, Exhaust $8k+, brakes $5k, and rebuild $35-45k. IMHO its all worth it. Nothing better than a well sorted 996. But the +25 numbers that are thrown around with a couple of parts listed are just BS numbers.

POST 7Original post

Plenty of threads on RL to discuss the topic. Here is a recent one. Hundreds of others. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...-my-996-a.html

POST 8Original post

I fall in line with GC996. Dyno says 200 cats, AFE headers (NLA), ported Soler 78mm throttle body, sport mufflers and software add 20 hp and 25 tq. 4 years ago all that cost me neighborhood of $2,900 on the cheap. Sound is greatest improvement, along with nice mid-curve torque plot. Underdrive pulley and turning off a/c will net you a couple hp.

OP - Several vendors have the R&Ts for $3500. A grand saved is a grand save. Tirerack has them on sale for $3141.

for sure, back when I was getting this done most places were out of stock / had long waits. Knew the price was elevated but didnt want to wait an extra month to get the work done. The guys I work with are a local Porsche Indy and incredibly honest.

POST 12Original post

The other performance item to consider is an LSD to get the power down with both wheels. Adds stability during braking, turning and acceleration. Guard makes the internals for a 996. Its a must have item if you want balance, handling, and ability to carry more speed.

I know its not sexy to say but also keep an eye on our classifieds/marketplace. I bought might for 3200.00 shipped with Tarett hats, they had less than 12k mi on them.
