Sorry, but that's just the way it is at the moment (and I suspect will remain that way with anything water-cooled that's not a GT).

They're hard cars to shift at the moment, due to high running costs and people not having the confidence to indulge in these kind of motors.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys currently selling my 996 911 http://www.911uk.com/ads_item.php?id=1007 I was just wondering how the market is at the moment and if any others are selling? I have had very little interest in the car and no one has even got close to coming to see it, I do believe its one of the finest 1998 996's on the market fully backed up by one of the finest companies, if anyone has any adivce for me it would be greatly received Cheers Stu

POST 2Original post

Hi, I'd say the price is slightly on the high side for the mileage and age, but not too far away. Where do you have it advertised? Have you also got it on PH and Autotrader? Where is your car priced in comparison to others? They're hard cars to shift at the moment, due to high running costs and people not having the confidence to indulge in these kind of motors. Depending on how long you've had it advertised and where it's advertised suggests that it is probably too expensive by a couple of grand.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Its currently advertised on Pistonheads at the moment but a few pages back now, normal 996's are going for around £15-16k mark without the warranty so with this having the Hartech Lifetime Maintenance Plan gives complete piece of mind to any owner, that why I bought it! Is the ad too long and people aren't reading it all?

POST 4Original post

Hi, No, I don't think it's a case of the ad being too long, more a case of whether the warranty is worth paying another £2k for. If you're in no rush to sell, then leave it for another couple of weeks and see what happens. If you want to sell, then you should consider dropping the price to less than £15k and I suspect you'll sell it quite quickly.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the advice GD, it isn't just the warranty I was considering it was the condition of the car, the bodywork, leather, electrics etc its all spot on, I am in no rush to sell and am fairily flexible on the price.

POST 6Original post

When I saw "Hartech Porsche" in the title, I was expecting to see the Hartech preventative engine modifications, in which case the price might not have been too far out. I sold my 1998 C2 with more toys and the same mileage a year ago for the same price you are asking - just before the sh*t hit the fan. I'd agree with GD that you are a couple of thousand high.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well I haven't seen a decent 996 for under 15k so a "few" grand is a little harsh I feel

POST 8Original post

A price the seller thinks it's worth and the price a buyer wants to pay are usually different, if the car has been around for a while then you are probably a little high the same as the other cars hanging around (although a week and a half is not that long). Drop by £500 every 2/3/4 weeks and you'll find the market value when it sells.

POST 10Original post

One of my supporting dealers www.deanjames.co.uk has a 2000 996 C2 in excellent condition for £14,999. It is very high mileage but in great condition and a couple of years newer. I agree, £15K is about the price for your car.

POST 11Original post

Yours looks nice Stu - remember the advertised price is just the asking - so we know what the owners are asking for, but almost all of them will be taking offers on the asking at this stage - Is there no way you can keep it?? - it is lots of car for the money!! LOJO

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Richard H £16,550 - 2K or a "couple" is £14,550. My Porsche has had all of the glitchs and costly repairs taken care of by Hartech, I have a 6 page engineers report showing what has been replaced. Suspension components, cam chains new brakes etc. Once you purchase your £14,999 Porsche and realise it needs new brakes, clutch and RMS seal (for example), there's 2k, not making it the bargain you initially thought. This doesn't happen in every case but you have to ask how and why some 996's are being sold so cheap. LOJO thanks for the kind comments.

POST 13Original post

Stu I'm not saying it isn't a very nice example. Clearly you haven't had any bites at your asking price, and I'm not alone in thinking you have pitched it slightly on the high side - especially as it is a private sale. I'd take basadan's advice and drop the price a stage at a time until you get some interest. That's if you don't mind waiting, and re-advertising on a regular basis. If you need the cash, and quick, then that's a different matter. Trouble is, it's a buyer's market. 996s are volume produced cars, and depreciate like every other modern car. That's the reality of it. I wish you the very best of luck with your sale, and hope that you find a buyer who is looking for exactly what you are offering, so may be prepared to pay that bit extra.

POST 14Original post

It seems strange how peoples opinions vary. I almost left the fold and was going to get a 355 recently. I put my 996 speed yellow cab with 31k miles a 2000 spec one owner car up for 18.5k on one site only and took no less than around 70 calls in a single day and could have sold it a dozen times over. The 355 sold and I withdrew. I do tend to agree with some of the comments made, but your car will need an edge if it is going to command top money. Good luck

POST 15Original post

I'm sorry mate, but that is too expensive. It is relatively high mileage (for a 911), a very common colour (so lots of similar cars around) and very low spec. It may well be in fantastic condition, and the Hartech plan is worth something (but IIRC you still have to pay for parts?), but there is no other come-back from a private sale - so it won't sell unless it's cheaper than anything from a reputable dealer. I got MUCH less than that for my '99V C4 - with £24,000 worth of factory fit options (including aerokit, sat nav, xenons, GT3 wheels and full carbon fibre interior). OK, it wasn't immaculate and had a few more miles and no warranty, but in an advert at the same price as yours I bet it would have resulted in more enquiries... Sorry, but that's just the way it is at the moment (and I suspect will remain that way with anything water-cooled that's not a GT). FWIW I reckon £14k is its maximum price, but if you're not too bothered whether you sell it or not no harm trying for more... (But, be warned, if advertised too long, people get suspicious)
