Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hello all, The outer door handle on the Cayman (and probably other Porsches) has a rubber washer between the movable part of the handle and the stationary part. This appears to be there to keep water from flowing into the door through the gap. This has broken on my Cayman and I'm sure the dealer will fix it but appears to be one of those pieces that is going to keep falling off. Has anyone had this experience? Also, is there a better fix than this little washer? Cheers!

Can't say I've noticed this problem but it might be worth posting a pic of the problem. -Moto

POST 3Original post

Whoa - 8 year old post. I just replaced mine thinking it also sealed the door. It might a little - but I think it's mostly so the handle doesn't chafe the body. My gasket lip had cracked-ripped and stuck out past the handle. I can never figure out how to unhook the actuator linkage to the door. So simply maneuvered it around the actuator-handle assembly and then into position. You do have to fish it around the handle microswitch wire too (disconnect the plug from it's mount - slides off pushing the tab)

POST 4Original post

Old thread revival (part 2) !! So this just happened to me today - noticed it as I got out of the car at work . The lip of the seal looks to have separated and is sticking out. Good to see there is a solid underlying gasket though. How did you loosen the door handle to do the repair? Did you have to take the interior door card off to get to that point, or is there a less-involved way to fix it?

POST 5Original post

Yes - you will need to remove both the outer & inner door panels to access the 2 mounting bolts to the door handle. The linkage will still keep it somewhat fixed within the confines of the door; could never figure out how to disconnect. The DIY-article here covers panel removal well.

POST 6Original post

Bummer, but thanks for the response. I'll probably just cut the little 'irish penant' piece of the seal off until I want to deal with that job.
