From your description it is hard for me to imagine that the removed items have changed the ride height dramatically.

I have straight piped it, replaced the two factory seats with Velo racing seats, installed a lithium axe battery, removed a lot of soundproofing, removed factory wheel and airbag and replaced with Momo Mod 07.

I understand that installing H&R lowering springs would require the fitting of Bilstein B6 or better, but I'm wondering if I can get away with using the standard shocks (B4) with the car being lighter (1220kg)?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello all, I have reduced the weight of my 996. I have straight piped it, replaced the two factory seats with Velo racing seats, installed a lithium axe battery, removed a lot of soundproofing, removed factory wheel and airbag and replaced with Momo Mod 07. I've removed the speakers, the spare wheel and toolkit and it came factory with no cats, no rear wiper, no side airbags, and no traction control (cable throttle).
As a consequence, my car is now sitting much higher and is in desperate need of lowering. I understand that installing H&R lowering springs would require the fitting of Bilstein B6 or better, but I'm wondering if I can get away with using the standard shocks (B4) with the car being lighter (1220kg)?
Fwiw, after taking the time and effort to succesfully go thru a weight reduction exercise, why not go with a proven set of coilovers versus "oem like" suspension so you can enjoy the weight savings and get more handling out of the car?
Sure GC that would be the best option but I've got a lot of irons in the fire at the moment and I find it hard to justify. A set of Billstein coilovers here in Australia is about AUD$7500 supply only!
Do you know how much weight you've removed from the car? From your description it is hard for me to imagine that the removed items have changed the ride height dramatically.
You SHOULD upgrade the shocks to the B8s with H&Rs but you don't HAVE to. Assuming your stock shocks are in decent condition, the car will still function. Sure it won't be as comfortable nor rebound as well as it could, but it's not terrible. I'm sitting on H&Rs with oem shocks and don't find the suspension bad, I still enjoy the car and drive it aggressively, although avoiding bumpy, damaged roads is advisable. I'm planning to install the B8s this year as well as fresh the entire suspension. Like you, just doing things in parts as time and money allow.
144kg lighter than standard, and I'm planning on taking off around another 20 kg.
I will price the Koni and Ohlins today, I hadn't considered anything but Bilstein for whatever reason, and it has never occurred to me to look for second hand shocks. I'm a big fan of buying second hand but not a huge supply of gear for the 996 here in South Australia, particularly out in the country.
Unfortunately I live on a property and I've already pump your roads as impossible. It looks like I'm going to have to buy the bullet and go for the coilovers; I know I would have ended up there eventually anyway.
