Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have an 2003 996. After filling the tank with gas, it takes a lot of cranking to start, then runs roughly for a bit before running normally. It starts normally every other time, both with engine warm or cold. When this first happened, I pulled up to the pump, removed the gas cap, then realized the pump was broken. I then drove to another pump at the same station (drove about 50 ft) and realized I had left the cap off. After the hard start, it ran well and started normally numerous times. It happened again the next time I got gas. Later, I experimented with starting it before removing the gas cap, and after removing it, opening the flap, then replacing the cap without adding any fuel - it started normally each time. It then happened a third time when getting gas, and this time it did threw a code: P0446: Evaporative Emission System Vent Control Circuit. The fact it only happens when after adding fuel has me puzzled, I have not found this situation described in the forums. It seems to be related to filler tube vent valve or EVAP purge valve, but am not sure. Any advice would be appreciated.
