I replaced the crankshaft sensor and to do it I had to remove the air intake, throttle, MAF and hose then plastic cradle used as wire path on the left side of the engine (airbox side)

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1Original post

Hi I cleaned the engine and all air intake parts I get a P0118 ECT sensor: electrical fault. I need to travel 850 km this weekend so I should fix this quickly. I tried to change the ECT sensor but no luck that is not the issue. On my OBD2 reader coolant temp is -39.6 Celsius. Do you k ow if this sensor is use in temperature control or just temp indicator? do you know if there is a fuse for this? Could be a wiring problem? Do someone has a wiring diagram for coolant system?

POST 2Original post

There used to be a 987.1 wiring diagram that was downloaded to this forum but doesn't appear to exist any more. All I can tell you is according to my copy the ECT has two wires going to it. One is brn/pnk and the other is blu/or. They both go to the MFI-DI Control Unit located in the "left side of rear luggage compartment". On the Control Unit the brn/pnk (pin C17) is labeled Sensor Ground. The blu/or (pin C22) is labeled NTC Coolant Temp. The brn/pnk is also tied to the Oil Temp and Level Sensor, Engine Temp Sensor, Camshaft Sensor 1, and Camshaft Sensor 2.

POST 3Original post

Thanks for this info. I replaced the crankshaft sensor and to do it I had to remove the air intake, throttle, MAF and hose then plastic cradle used as wire path on the left side of the engine (airbox side) i was able to test the ground wire inside the connector and it is ok (wire is blue in my car) So this leaves the signal wire or the module i hope the module is not bad?

POST 4Original post

Sorry I made a mistake I was probably too tired The blue wire is V+ and 3.3 Vdc. The V0 is brown/orange and is damaged or cut somewhere. i fix it temporarily by jumping the V0 wire from the connector to the engine block. Problem solved. Now I need to find a pro repair for this wire. Porsche in Belgium told me they go to Audi to rebuild harness.... I will try...
