I also checked the drop link on this side when I did the brakes (while cold and sat for a while) and there was no obvious knock.

I've checked the rear hatch as I know this is pretty common but it persists; it sounds like a knocking joint but weirdly it doesn't knock until the car has been driven for a decent amount of time.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hi there, I've just bought a 2006 Cayman S which I absolutely love! I noticed after the first long drive in it that there's a rattle from the rear driver's side of the car, which is apparent after an hour+ of driving. I've checked the rear hatch as I know this is pretty common but it persists; it sounds like a knocking joint but weirdly it doesn't knock until the car has been driven for a decent amount of time. I also checked the drop link on this side when I did the brakes (while cold and sat for a while) and there was no obvious knock. Has anyone else had something similar to this? Any pointers on where to start looking would be massively appreciated!

POST 2Original post

Yes and it was the strut mount. It is difficult to find you need compress the spring try to move the strut. In my case we were able compress the spring and the mount and replace it..

POST 3Original post

Amazing, thanks for this. Will change the rear strut mounts and hope for the best ?

POST 4Original post

you didn't mention the mileage or age of parts - but I would recommend checking all 4 corners absorbers and control arms.

POST 5Original post

Wait. Is Ground Pilot talking about the rear hatch struts (that hold hatch open) or the struts in the rear suspension/shock tower, or the under-carriage struts?

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
