Good afternoon my fellow
Porsche
family and friends
I have bought a
Porsche Boxster
2006
987.1
as my first car, and has driven 82,000 KM. the car is in perfect shape.... right until now, when I drive it (doesn't matter how long the drive) the car smell a lot like fuel, especially near the right front side of the car, where the gas tank is when I fuel it up. I have brought it to the
Porsche
service centre, spent a lot of money now, gotten the fuel canister replaced and 6 oils replaced, and the smell is not gone, and might even be worse now. Please let me know what you guys think can be the issue, as im scared to drive it as driving in a warm country with gas leaking somewhere is not good and is dangerous. I can't see any gas leak, and neither can
Porsche
.
your help is much appreciated

I had exactly the same problem after my last service. After a few
points
checked, I noticed that there is a small leak from the fuel tank. The leak is from the area where neck joins with tank. There is a plastic extension on the tank where neck slots in which seems to have developed a small crack. I hope that your problem is not that serious but is worth checking. There is an opening on the wheel arch where you can insert your phone and take a photo to check. Of course lifting up and removing the wheel will allow better view.
He
hey man.
Yeah this is such an annoying problem as I’ve just bought the car and all I want to do is drive it, but I don’t feel comfortable driving it until this issue is fixed.
The shop has had the car for over a month and they can’t figure out where the smell is coming from.
They said there are no visual leaks but they don’t want to open up the car as it’s a old car and are afraid it will break other small parts.
I told them it is not satisfactory at this, and that I don’t care about something else breaking, because they NEED to open up the car and see what is wrong.
If after a month this shop doesn't want to or can't fix this problem so move the car to a shop that will
i think Mathias has limited dealers to turn to.... be patient - and the suggestion to put a small camera in the arch is a good one...
alternately, it maybe time to look for an independent workshop in your country that can help....
Did you get anywhere with this Mathias? There is a specialist garage in Dubai Industrial City that does a lot of work on
Porsche
. Called ARM 04 580 4488
Hey man
Yeah I did. I brought it to
Porsche
in Al Noorboda.
They found out the gas tank was leaking... and it was not visible until they spilt the car up....
How was it leaking? That sounds expensive! All fixed now though?
I just replaced mine. Tried to fix first with special glue but still leaking so eventually replaced the tank.
