i want to fit or have fitted cruise to my c4s cab, however i have a new style warranty.
I copied the excellent instructions from the RennTech site on how to do it on a e-gas 996 and the facelift model and gave them to my local Indy who successfully installed cruise on my facelift 996.

Suggestion
Didn't explain very well that 996.2 is true plug and play (once PST2'd), that avoids the 996.1's need for an extra 25m of cabling (OK, so it is multicore, but it does run front to back and a bit round the back of the dash to the pedal assembly - knocks about 1.5 hours of labour off)

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi
Does any one know if I can retro fit cruise to my 99 c4 cab? Dont really understand the Egas part but know this was around the time the cars changed (mine is the clear light version even tho a 99 car) If it can be done It would be useful on my motorway trips to work!!!
Surprised Richard did not mention Tony Wright of WrighTune, so I will.
996.1 eGas (all C4s and MY2001 onwards C2s) = £470
996.2 = £350
Note: if you don't already have on-board computer (MPG etc) - you get that free with upgrade.
Check out the website for other models and full specs:

Had mine done a few months back - can't praise the work and allround niceness (!) enough.
They are based between Oxford and Reading. I see the OP is in Kent, but suffice to say, I live in north Herts and all my future Porsche maintenace will be with him.
PS - as mentioned "eGas" is Porsche's designation for electronic throttle (or "drive by wire"). Previously C2s (and 993s etc) were mechanically operated. The throttle connected via pulleyed cable to pedal. CC was possible, but with extra sensors, actuators and a separate ECU monitoring and operating a rather inelegant "Heath Robinson-esque" system with a little motor to actually pull on the throttle cable!
The eGas'd cars are all effectively CC capable (sensors and direct fuelling control is already part of ECU programming) - just add the CC stalk (switch) and tell the ECU it has CC enabled and away you go. (technically this is true for MOST bus'd 996.2 and onwards, 996.1 cars require some extra wires to power up sensors and connect them to ECU and ECU to stalk as CC equipped 996.1 cars had a slightly more complex wiring loom from the factory)
Nicely put. I think you mean CAN bus rather than MOST. MOST is the optical network, and CAN is the Controller Area Network.
I retrofitted cruise to my non-eGas '98 C2 and it was a marathon. New throttle pedal and cable, cruise actuator, and heaps of wiring. All possible, but not for the faint hearted.
On facelift models the instrument cluster contains the controller for cruise, which makes the wiring simpler, as there are no connections to the DME. That's why it's a cheaper retrofit.
I think I'm correct in saying that any OPC can retrofit cruise control to later 996s and all 997s (+ 987 Boxster and Cayman) for £499 inc. VAT
That price was from Tonbridge OPC, so may vary and it is obviously more than an indie would charge, but at least having the work done with original parts by your friendly local OPC will not invalidate the warranty.
I have been thinking of having it added to mine, but not sure whether it would enhance resale value.
However, if there's enough interest, maybe we could go for a 991UK group buy :?:
Clive
OPCs will only retrofit cruise to 987, 997 and Cayenne.
They will tell you it isn't possible on a 986 or 996. That's because they don't have written instructions how to do it.
Retrofitting Cruise to a 996
Re the question from eddiek-62 about anbody further north able to fit cruise to a 996.
I copied the excellent instructions from the RennTech site on how to do it on a e-gas 996 and the facelift model and gave them to my local Indy who successfully installed cruise on my facelift 996. Richard H contributed a lot to the RennTech solution and also clarified a couple of points for me.
It was about 1.5 hrs to install and set up the DME and Cluster. I bought the parts, so total cost was about £300. So a compratively easy job for a good Indy or even an experienced Porsche DIYer!
Hope this helps.

Cost of Parts.
I bought column stalk and some connectors from OPC with discount, and wires/connectors from VW, and total was around £150.
Cheers

Yes, it has to be activated in the instument cluster, DME, or both, depending on model year. You need access to a PST2 or PIWIS tester to do this.
The 4-stalk units are £165 now, plus about £15-20 for the other bits and pieces you need.
Re: page one, Richard - yeah I meant the newer wideband loom (canbus), MOST is the satnav/ICE network. Teach me to post at 1:30am!
