Porsche 911 Carrera gets turbocharged engine for under $90k
(not official yet)
They better come up with a faster 991.2 GT3
Just trickle down the technology from 991.1
GT3
RS. Time to think real hard when they come out with the 991.2
GT3
RS in 2018 lol
Put the same tires on the new car it will be pushing the existing
GT3
times. NOW they can bring out the
GT4
PDK
because it won't matter.

Excellent point for the NA 991.2
GT3
. Could they be going with larger engines and higher compression?
As for the Ring, you figure that all that torque is spinning it up out of the corners faster. Did the new time include rear wheel steering?
The press release didnt say but I suspect so. The torque curve of the turbo is a killer, totally flat from 1700 to 5500 meaning it is accelerating as fast as it can through most of the rpms.
I wouldn't be concerned about the
GT3
ring times being beat by a 991.2S. It's not going to happen. However, the turbo and the AWS is certainly going to close the gap.
991.2
GT3
will perhaps have the 991.1 GT3R 4Liter......
Actually, it is threatened. Its not going unnoticed that the times are 5 seconds off the 991GT3 time and on street tires. Put on some SP2 tires like the
GT3
, and the times will get much closer, for a lot less money. The area under the torque curve with it being flat over 1700 matters.
What does this portend for the 991.2GT3 if it doesn't go turbo. In the meantime, there is more discussion of the upcoming GT2RS, which makes sense. There isn't much more than can do to the
GT3
and some are saying the 991R will get the 991.GT3RS 500 HP engine.
Technology goes forward.
This is more interesting:
"I think that's the theoretical speed, there are speed restrictions on the Ring in certain sections - so this isn't the "official" time. I believe a reporter in Frankfurt cornered Hatz (now "retired") on this."
Of course Hatz is now gone but the implication is there that these cars could be just as fast as the 991.1 GT3 around the ring. Its all about the torque curve.
Dumb question, where will the new 911GT fit into this performance picture. It seems they are deliberately denuding it a bit...
The 911GT is discussed here
http://www.planet-9.com/club-911-ge...m/club-911-general-discussion/108516-rumor-pure-back-basics-911-gt-planned.html
. Its referenced in
'Pure' Porsche 911 GT planned | Autocar
and recently
here.
Rumors keep changing but its basically a MT GT car, GT3RS engine, back seat, back to basics, skinnier tires (e.g., the GT3RS has 21" rears).
What do you mean by "denuding" it. Its supposed to be a numbered car. Some are predicting in EU forums a $250K price tag, already sold out. People have deposits down on anything Porsche sells that is a 911 and numbered.
While the GT4 game might have been new for the entry level cars, the 911 crowd has been playing this game for decades. Anything in the wind about a club coupe/RS car/numbered cars and the money comes out. I think there is some confusing. Some are calling the car a 991GT, some a 991R, etc. But in the end, just think a simplified, back to basics, MT car, no big wing, real back seat (not like a GT3), EOL.
For what its worth, the 7:30 ring time is real (as told to me) and upsetting to the 991.1TT owners as its faster, and 1 sec slower than a
Carrera
GT, 4 secs behind the 991.1TTS and 5 secs behind the
GT3
. Change the
Michelin
MPSS tires to
Michelin
SP2, like on the
GT3
, and the car might be even. Some people didn't believe the 991.1S time of 7:38, at 8 seconds faster, the new 991.2S is setting a new mark. What is the 991.2TT going to do?
I can imagine buying a $170,000 991.1TT only to find 6 months later a 991.2S is just as fast for say $115K and
Technology ...
