Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I always ask them to clean the area around the RMS so that we can track clearly if it begins to leak.
Leading evidence: 'Clean area around the rms so' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean area around the rms so' (1 discussions). I know I should have had a PPI but the price was right and with a clean car fax i moved on it.

So I read here not to worry, take care of it when you replace the clutch.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Alignment did the trick, but looking under the car, there was an oil leak where the trany meets the motor.
Had my week old(for me) 04-pc2-cab in for an alignment today due to off center steering wheel. Alignment did the trick, but looking under the car, there was an oil leak where the trany meets the motor. Searching here it appears to be the RMS. For the week I've owned the car I have maybe two small drops of oil on the garage floor. Lot of road dirt on trans/motor around the leak area. So I read here not to worry, take care of it when you replace the clutch. The car has 33k miles. I would think it'll be awhile before i'll need a clutch. I know I should have had a PPI but the price was right and with a clean car fax i moved on it. So why do I have a bad feeling about this car?
Yes, it may very well be the RMS. But it could be other things as well, like a valve cover gasket.
Each year, I have the folks who work on my car do a thorough visual inspection with me underneath the car. I always ask them to clean the area around the RMS so that we can track clearly if it begins to leak. Perhaps you could do that with your favorite new Porsche mechanic. It isn't a concours cleaning. Just a spray and wipe to monitor where likely greasy/oily stuff comes from.
Your car had lots of different coatings on the bottom originally from the factory. Some of those may have collected the road grime of 7 years and 33k miles.
You have that bad feeling because of the internet and all the doom and gloom some people like to post out there! As the posters above have said, don't panic, just track the small leak and act on it when you need to. It would help to uncover what you can about the cars service history and begin to assemble that information into your own service binder for your new ride. Most importantly, ENJOY your car!
Also, place a piece of cardboard under your engine/transmission so you'll be able to clearly see how much oil is leaking. As mentioned, clean the area around the suspected area to help you or your mechanic determine where it is coming from...don't panic yet.
Hang in there - even with a PPI you can have an issue.
You have some good advice above:
1) try to get a good accurate reading on how much leaking
2) make sure you keep the oil level correct
3) get it on a lift so a mechanic can see where it is really coming from
If that cars been sitting around a lot lately its good to keep it moving. Seals and gaskets will shrink, dry out or other odd things when just sitting around. Good reason to cruise it for sure.
If the oil looks dirty thats a good reason to feel bad. Change the oil if its dirty and start out fresh.
I don't want to make assumptions about your mechanical ability, but mine is limited. Three times over the years I've had this car, I've found a 'leak' there, only to have my mechanic trace the oil back to some other point of origin. The M96 engine doesn't want you to sleep, so it seems to channel all oil leaks to the bell housing area just to mess with your head. At least, that's been my experience. In my case, it was a spark plug tube, the AOS and then one of the new spark plug tubes was defective.
It might not be your RMS, and if it is, it's not really such a big deal. Enjoy your car. It's supposed to make you grin.
Depends how you drive on the clutch. I see mine was done at 15K miles and then not again till 103K. The RMS leak is common. They now have a new style seal. So why do you have a bad feeling about the car? I cant answer that? maybe becasue you thought you were stealing a porsche for the price? and Now you are finding the issues of why it was so cheap. Your leak could also be IMS.
Is the oil burnt black or is it more carmel color? If it is brunt black I would strongly suggest you have it fixed for fear of IMS.
Yes you certainly should have had a PPI done if you are not a DIY'r for sure. Good for you for realizing that now and that we do not have to sit here and tell you what kind of bonehead move that was! Whew. LOL I do hope you can take a little ribbing.
Stick with the car if you are into it right. I am sure you knew you were buying a Porsche and expect to spend another 2-3 on the car to make it right. So drop the tranny, pop in a clutch and the LNE retro IMS kit and call it a day.. You are looking at about 2500.00 if you have it done and about 1500 DIY'r...
Get the *** end in the air and climb under with your socket set and have fun.
