Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, fairly new Porsche owner here. I've been reading this forum for a while and decided to make an account. My 996 C4S is in the shop currently for a faulty brake master cylinder. They are quoting me over $1100 for the part having number of 996 355 910 50. Does anyone happen to know of any alternative options for this part? This is the picture of the part they need for my car, and they noted that the orange piece is a different size than the black one. Thanks so much

POST 7Original post

A warning for the GT3 master cylinder. Sometimes it doesn't play nice with PSM. Of course GT3's don't have PSM. Using it on a PSM car might require a brake proportioning valve to prevent PSM errors. I needed one on my PSM car or I'd get a PSM failure instantly the first time I braked. I ended up unplugging the PSM pump because PSM doesn't like heavy trailbraking into corners.

Thanks. I ordered this: Porsche Brake Master Cylinder 99735591030 – TRW PMN166 TRW PMN166 $223 shipped with tax. Not bad IMO. I'm about to take on a brake change. Figured it was a good time to buy.
