Good the OP used a PPI to assess the car prior to purchase.

Suggestion
I would want to include all those to verify mileage from ECU data, check for accident repairs through paint thickness, remove headlights to look inside wings, lift carpets etc.The engine in the Mezger unit is bullet proof.
Leading evidence: 'Use ppi' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check accident repairs through paint thickness, remove headlights' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. The only comment I would make is that his checklist is a bit limited compared to some others that do vin number/engine number check log book checks even paint depth for the same price but these aren't essentials and I'd rather they made sure the engine wasn't about to blow up.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi everyone I'm sure this topic has been done to death and I've done a quick search on the forum. All posts seems to take me to the 911virgin article which has a lot of detail but doesn't really answer my question.
I've just had the ppi done for the 996t I'm getting on Sunday (after 2 delays... hopefully it's finally happening). They have found 5000ish category1 over revs which is apparently normal the more concerning part was 133 engine 1 over revs in the last 26 hours. The 911v article just says that within 50 hours there is a chance of the engine blowing up and needing a rebuild I was wondering in reality if that has happened to many people? Otherwise the car drives really tight and has little else wrong with it maybe a grands worth of parts and labour.
Any advice or experiences welcome!
5,000 ish and 133 sound like big numbers but each 'one' only represents milliseconds so even 5,000 is not a massive amount.
The 133 was probably only a second.

There's a lot of other stuff in the thread that will assure you that what this car is showing is not a problem for a 996T. :thumb:
There are only 2 rev ranges on a 996 Turbo. Over rev in range 2 is the serious one.
Your post is not clear to me. If these are RR 1 I'd not worry. But if they are on RR2 so recently (those 133 in 24 hrs) then walk away.
RR 1 is logged hitting the redline. It happens easily e.g. when overtaking in 2nd gear. In RR1, the ECU shuts off and the ECU manages the situation to prevent damage to the engine.
RR2 is more likely a 'mechanical' over-rev caused by changing down inappropriately, such as 5th into 2nd by accident or the car becoming air borne and wheels losing traction with the road.
Is it a manual or tiptronic? It is far more likely in a manual box car but not impossible in a tiptronic.
Crisis averted I think. I got the report on the phone I thought he said in the last 26 hours but the report shows the last one was 268 hours ago. Which 911virgin and a few others seem to think is ok. To give some more info it's a manual and the 133 are in rr2.
How long ago those 133 in RR2?
268 hrs? Then no worry as no other symptoms.
If recently then requires compression check.
Welcome to 996 Turbo ownership. You will gradually develop paranoia over every slight thing from this point on. Justified in poor example cars (of which there are plenty out there).
Manual car is what I have and prefer. The tiptronic 2-pedal car is good and in fact Porsche sold more 996 with tiptronic box than manual. Manual box has it's own weaknesses though.
Details of your car? Year? Mileage? Who did the PPI?
Thanks! I don't quite have it yet.. getting it on Sunday I'll post some pictures once it's legally mine.
It's arctic silver (aren't they all  ) colour wasn't my first choice but it has grown on me and I now prefer it to seal grey which was the original preference.
Manual original body kit although I saw an aero kit one and was tempted but I'd scratch that body coloured splitter in 2 minutes I'm sure.
PPI was done by sid at porsche torque he seemed to do a thorough inspection of the engine suspension etc. time will tell I guess. The only comment I would make is that his checklist is a bit limited compared to some others that do vin number/engine number check log book checks even paint depth for the same price but these aren't essentials and I'd rather they made sure the engine wasn't about to blow up.
I dont know Porsche Torque but have read posts on here - nothing untoward posted on all counts.
The list of essentials you describe is personal preference or opinion. I would want to include all those to verify mileage from ECU data, check for accident repairs through paint thickness, remove headlights to look inside wings, lift carpets etc.The engine in the Mezger unit is bullet proof. Unlikely to blow up in my experience. There are examples with poor body damage repairs and discrepant mileage.
Fingers crossed you have a good 'un.
Good to hear he was in good hands through that long term relationship with 911UK. I know nothing about them, other than posts I have read. Buying a Turbo is a gamble based on several discussions with an indy on my door step. He has seen a lot of dogs and is forensic in his appeoach for a PPI. There are obviously others with the same forensic approach. Good the OP used a PPI to assess the car prior to purchase.
