On Thursday night I attanded the launch of the 991 here in Dubai.
The Dubai dealer is the number one dealer globally with 1500 sales last year (And some previous years as well), so a couple of special guests were flown in from Porsche including the Chief designer for Porsche...unfortunately I didn't find a chance to corner him and pry out some information on the 991 GT3 specs, because my wife was already bored
A very nice 3D presentation highlighted the new features and key improvements and of course the fact that the 991S laps the Ring in the same time as the
997.2
GT3. It had nice parts to the event but also some messy aspects unfrotunately.
It was also a very sociable event as I am lucky enough to know many of the dealer contacts, the GM giving us reserved seating and seeing many friends there as well.
I've now spent a lot of time around the 991 on 3 seperate occasions, but think I prefer the look of the new
981
personally, and there are a few areas I'm not keen on with the 991. The black plastic splitter at the front, the amount of script (badges) on the back, the bulb like front lamp lenses and when the spoiler is up the fact the mechanism etc. looks somehow unfinished.
At the end of the night a limited edition solid metal model of the 991 was handed out, which was a great touch and provided many a smile!:banana:
No pics?
Mods ban him please!
Sounds like a great time! Glad someone here got to go andnexperience that!
You got a pic of my model...what more do you want? :taunt:
We've all seen 991's by now haven't we? And taking pics of a 3D movie wouldn't have worked out well
I only had my iPhone with me so my pics were not the best, but also as I've already spent some time alone in private sitting and inspecting a 991S, a few weeks ago, I didn't really look at them this time as the crowds gathered round.
Called by Dubai Porsche today to check out the 991 in person only to find that theyhaven`t got any in the showroom until the start of Feb, what did they use for the launch??
I got my invitation last Thursday to attend the launch event on January 30th across the bridge from here; i.e. Bahrain. I emailed them my confirmation and received in return my e-ticket. Unfortunately I'll be attending in my Land Cruiser instead of my Mistress but I'm sure looking forward for the event.
Thanks for the tips Daniel

Wondered where you'd got to Mark!
About time for you to join the Porsche Club events.....
They've got at least 4 of here for training etc. however they are not in the showroom and have been in the service center (out back) for several weeks already. I think they may even belong to Porsche ME, but will not go into the showroom as far as I know....maybe they've been shipped to Bahrain...
Hassaan, I'll be interested to hear what sort of presentation and event they give you. The main screen had an outline of the 991 with the names listed of everybody who was attending. The theme was Identity.
It will probably be better to see the 991 when it's in the showroom and you get more time to inspect it. They have some really nice features, but there are also some other aspects I really don't like. Look when the rear spoiler is up how unfinished it looks and that someone could steal the visable filler caps back there! Then try and take a look at the engine
