It’s been a long and circuitous route but we’re finally back to having a 911 in the garage; yesterday we picked up a
Carrera
S cab, Basalt black with
Carrera
Red interior with deviating dash, steering wheel and carpets (all black). Quite a few options: sport seats, console, door finishers and headlight washers in exterior color,
PDK
,
sport chrono
, Turbo wheels …
The lease on our RS60 Boxster was expiring in March – we were going to buy it as my wife loves our “Sun Baby” but we also wanted a
PDK
so she could drive the car. The
Carrera
was way too expensive ($121K) but (literally) months of on and off negotiations resulted in the best deal the salesman and finance manager had ever seen – it was the largest discount, dollar or percentage-wise, I had ever gotten on a car…
So, we now have “Dragon Baby”, named such because I was born in the year of the Dragon and our car came to us in 2012 (the year of the Dragon). All of our Porsches have been named <something> Baby; never had any kids so our cars came closest …
Anyway, glad to be back home!
Congrats! A very smart purchase. Have you also test driven the new
911S
? If yes, any impressions in comparison with the one you bought? Enjoy life.
Super awesome!!! That is just drop-dead gorgeous. wow
Enjoy!!!
Looks fantastic! Congrats
Congrats! I like your car names. Dragon baby is perfect as it is the year of the Dragon too! Good luck to you!
congratulations!!! That car is a beauty!
Awesome car. Great color combo. Good luck with it!
Thanks for all of the compliments; appreciate them.
As to the 991, I saw one at the dealership but it wasn't set up for a test drive ... while I really like the interior (except for the loss of the handbrake), I cannot get past the bubbleish
headlights
and the fact that they cost even more. I'd been spec-ing various cars using the configurator and I couldn't keep them under what used to be Turbo territory. As much as I appreciate the alleged improvements in the 991, it's now at a price point that is out of reach. It's not going to help them increase sales volume as it brings the car into a price category that makes one look at other cars.
However, I appreciate the advent of the 991 because it has impacted pricing of the 997.2; at least for me. I got a 911 for what will be 981 Boxster pricing (when spec-ed out).

Beautiful car, congratulations! Very nicely equipped too! I agree w/ your 991 comments as well. It will be interesting to see how well the car sells in the US over the next 6-12mos.
That is very nice. I'm getting the bug for a 911 and may start looking around at last 2 model years and the 991.
