2012 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 vs. 2013 Nissan GT-R vs. 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera S - Comparison Test - Car and Driver
The first of many.... Muhahaha!!!!
Every new car mag has a piece extolling the virtues of the 991. About the only criticism seems to relate to a lack of the handling traditional rear engine vices.
One of them (can't remember which cause I read a pile of them at local bookstore) declaired that the biggest change to suspension was the front end, clearly designed to replicate the superior turn in characteristics of the Cayman.
It finally has the good looks (front fender lines and hight to width ratio) of the Boxter/Cayman
I had 911's continuously for more than 30 years years before graduating to a Boxter. The 991 is the first 911 that has me thinking of going back.
Yeah but at $40-$50K more than the competition I would hope they would like it better! A 991 S at the price of a 997 Turbo is just insane... but some people will surely do it...
It seems part of their marketing strategy is to position the 991 as a prestige symbol relative to its performance characteristics as measured by the value on the dollar. JMHO. Not sure what the annual 991 estimated production to sales numbers are but I suspect they keep close tabs on supply and demand in an effort to ensure demand is just slightly ahead of the supply curve. Just a thought.
C&D, R&T, and Motor Trend have been doing 911/Corvette/Datsun(Nissan) comparisons since I was a kid (late 60s). The results are always the same, and the respective customer base for the individual marques hasn't changed much either.
Yeah, a little insane there. I ran a quick spec on what I would order and came in around $110K. Just as with the 997.x a plane jane 991 will have 99.5% the performance of a fully loaded one.
I'm also willing to bet that the next Cayman will take a pretty big jump in price also. Not as much as the 991, but more than the Boxster. I would think the "normal price" for a new Cayman will be around $75 ~ $80K with some options.
