It's already on axle stands ready to replace much of the breaking system, I've replaced the rubber spoiler curtain, I've refurbished the radiator brackets and it's had a full machine polish.

Then there's the Pubs, restaurants who may get away with it during summer as they can use their beer gardens etc.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey everyone, still in the market for a 996. Ideally with an aerokit (early car prefereable).
Wondering what everyones thoughts are on the market & how much cars are actually selling for?
How much of a premium would you pay for a car with a hartech rebuild for example?
Looking forward to the discussion,
Tobie.
These questions have been asked a few times, if you have search you will find various threads and opinions on this.
I saw a real nice early aero car sell real quick, so i dont think the market is as bashed as people hoped. If the car is a decent example i think it will still sell, i do think that there are deals to be had on some cars. You are after what sounds like a nice thing, however this is a popular requirement so i think you need to move quick on the right car. A lot of the same cars that aren't as well presented keep doing the rounds.
As for a car with a Hartech rebuild, i do believe that these will carry a premium over a non rebuilt car. Hartech are well known as the best out there, you only need to look at their website and see what its entailed in one of there builds. You can speak to them, they are straight talking and know the m96 pitfalls. effectively a Hartech car should be bulletproof, treated right will last for many, many miles.
There will be someone that will disagree with above and say that it makes little difference. I know that a car will command the higher end of the values with this work done, however there are varying levels of hartech rebuild so you need to read the invoice carefully.
hope that this answers your questions.
cheers
Hi Tobie,
I've yet to see any evidence that the 'entry level' 911 market is any worse than it was pre-CV19 and can't see why these excellent value-for-money cars will slip in future.
Anyone that knows of the potential issues associated with the 996 Carrera engines will always see a car with Hartech modifications, and especially a full rebuild, as a major positive.
Numerous previous discussions on this sub-form (and the 997 sub-forum re- Gen1 997s) have established that most buyers would be prepared to pay a premium for such a car.
IMO those that choose not to are playing Russian roulette but I respect their choice. There will be many that save money through buying a standard car and will be laughing all the way to the bank. Sadly there will inevitably be others that regret their decision. Once you're fully informed about the situation it's all about individuals attitude to risk.
I think that the austerity resultant from the situation will be felt next year. At the moment people have money and with holidays cancelled are looking to invest in other items. A friend has been looking at exiges and they are 'flying out of the door'. As a business I'm inundated with work as people look to spend on their homes. All this said as tax, vat, council tax all increase as they will to recoup their outlays there will be a financial impact. I own a car so I have a dog in the fight but I can't see values plummeting. Bearing in mind they've already done the low ebb of the cycle.
Price will always be driven by mileage and condition.
You can get a 996 for £10k.....
IMO a nice low miles car is going to be £16k-£18k.
Add a couple of grand for the aerokit.
Chickens have not come home to roost yet, unless you've lost your job as a direct result of C19 etc then you won't have felt the impact.
Also, there's a huge amount of pent-up demand - so there's going to be, if anything, something of a surge in transactions right now.
However, we've spent, and are spending, a lot of money that has to come from somewhere and tax rises are inevitable alongside austerity that will make the last ten years feel like a Nordic country.
I think that we'll start to see things turn in September/October, potentially very seriously.
There are certainly testing times ahead. 996's are old now and may suffer as the newer stuff becomes cheaper as owners with finance bail out.
It still won't mean you get a good car for peanuts though.
Hi guys.
Thought I would chip in as I have just purchased an early 996 C2 albeit without aero.
It's a 98 car with higher miles at circa 140k and was a bit of a gamble at <£9k.
It's got some issues such as discs and pads near wear limit and tyres showing age related deterioration but with plenty of tread. It's covered very few miles in recent years and it shows that it's been parked up for a while. Body has had some paint but all the panels are original and there are no signs of any significant damage. All forgivable considering it's 22 years old.
It's already on axle stands ready to replace much of the breaking system, I've replaced the rubber spoiler curtain, I've refurbished the radiator brackets and it's had a full machine polish.
All in all I'm happy with my purchase but know it's a bit of a gamble.
Nice one Barry. Can't go far wrong at that price.
As for the OPs question....
The market hasn't really altered yet, not downward anyway. The lifting of lockdown is seeing a few folk with pent up frustration getting out there and buying summer toys still, as if nothing has changed.
Same with houses. No big changes.... yet.
As I say on the house price thread though, the furlough scheme will keep things propped up until September, so I'm completely ignoring current news, economy stuff until then.
Things will start to unfold at the end of summer. We'll know where we are in the new year I'd imagine.
There's a hell of a lot of people out there (and in here) with £10k burning a hole in their pocket who've never stopped working throughout this. One of the reasons the market's as it is.
Yep. I've worked through. Very grateful for that.
There's an awful lot of people who haven't though and won't be going back.
The 11,000 BA staff, the 2000 BAE staff, many oil and gas workers and related companies.
Then there's the Pubs, restaurants who may get away with it during summer as they can use their beer gardens etc. The cinemas and theatres, most of which are saying they'll shut down for good if the 2m rule applies.
So things are largely unchanged for most of us at the moment but it hasn't even started to unfold yet.
I hope I'm wrong mind but even Rishi Sunak has dropped his talk of a V shaped dip with a quick recovery.
Anyway apologies for turning this into another Corona thread.
OP if your work looks safe and you have the cash then get one bought. You're a long time dead. :thumb:
i've bought exact same model last October for £8250 with 107k miles on the clock. again, was I bit of a gamble but all I wanted was a cheap commuter and she is spot on. planning to give her a service at the end of a summer. so far the only spend is fuel and **** me she drinks a lot!
