Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Reported cause
Now, it wasn't the condition of the car that put me off, it was the fact that he wasn't honest about aspects of the car's history that I'd asked about.

I questioned it, he fiddled around checking the paint depth with a gauge, then weirdly he suddenly remembered he'd (thats him, the dealer) had the side of the car resprayed by his paint guy!!
Leading evidence: 'fact' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'fact' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check paint depth' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I had probably the most unsavoury experience with Elmstone that I've known with a car dealer.

It says IMS but which?, Liners, what type, did the crankshaft bearings get changed, they are due at that sort of mileage, cam chains and guides could be worn?

He was a bit irritated that I was clearly not impressed with the car and didn't want to waste his time even test driving it.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello all,
I'm tentatively looking for my first 911 and I'm still on the fence between the 996 and 997. I think in some ways the 996 looks more original and pure (especially from the rear) rather than a kind of retro pastiche, but I digress...
Anyway, this example has come up and I think it looks pretty tidy. Both Elmstone Classics (the vendor) and HP Porsche (who recently rebuilt the engine) seem to be well reviewed - the seller is very friendly and professional and the car has stacks of history. Has anybody had any dealings with them? Would a non-Hartech rebuilt car be a bad idea?

Any thoughts would be appreciated,
Thanks
Jon
Car look fine and it depends on what was done in the engine rebuild to say if it was a good rebuild.
Hartech are second to none with these engines and unless it was one of their rebuilds it would usually be inferior but depending on the price it may be a good buy, you just need more detail on the engine and what was replaced.

I had probably the most unsavoury experience with Elmstone that I've known with a car dealer.
I arrived (after a round trip of 4 hours) to see a car, it wasn't as advertised in a number of ways, not least being the wrong colour. I had also checked on the phone about the dealers knowledge of any bodywork repairs or respray to his knowledge (knowing that any 996 of this age and mileage will have had paint). The answer was none that he was aware of, or that I'd notice if I wasn't aware of it. Fair enough answer.
When I arrived it was clear it'd had quite a bit of paint that was immediately obvious! I questioned it, he fiddled around checking the paint depth with a gauge, then weirdly he suddenly remembered he'd (thats him, the dealer) had the side of the car resprayed by his paint guy!!
The car was also advertised as having had a new IMS upgrade, when I called he said it hadn't yet been done and would be done before collection if I bought it. Fine, no problem with that. Except, when I arrived, he explained that once the IMS upgrade had been done he would be re-advertising it for £2k more than currently advertised as he thought it was too cheap...seriously!
He was a bit irritated that I was clearly not impressed with the car and didn't want to waste his time even test driving it. Now, it wasn't the condition of the car that put me off, it was the fact that he wasn't honest about aspects of the car's history that I'd asked about. He didn't want me to leave without pressing me as to why I didn't want to buy his car, I felt like he really wanted a argument. It was such a weird experience.
To end this, he had the front to call ME a time waster and a tyre kicking dreamer!
