mate you are going to have to remove the seats and strip them down so the hard back is separate from the seat/leather etc, as has been mentioned above , strip off the soft touch rubber coating, probably also sand/fill any imperfections and then paint.

Suggestion

Its probably an hour max to remove them both, you can pull the leather from around the plastic back and spray them but if you have the rubber coating on them you may need to remove that with paint stripper or use the correct primer to go over the rubber coating?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've been wanting to spray the backs of my hard back seats of my 2001 C2 Tip Cab for some time, but I really don't want to remove them from the car, as its my company car and a daily drive. Has anyone done this in-situ ?

POST 2Original post

It would take less time to remove them than the time to mask and cover all the other interior car parts to avoid misting the vinyl or leather dye over everything else. And the cleaning and other prep of the seats is critical fo a decent job.

There is no real option unless you want a total bodge, in which case whats the point?! I've heard of people vynal wrapping the backs although you'd still need the seat out of the car, would maybe look ok for a bit, never going to be as nice as painting them though.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was seeing whether you can remove just the hard back while still in the car, and spraying them, then re-fitting them leaving the main part of the seats in-situ

POST 6Original post

You need to remove the hard back part from inside the seat that is why it would be easier just to remove the seat and pull the leather away, mask up and spray. You could just do the passenger seat first if you don't need that and do the drivers one one day when you are not at work?

POST 7Original post

Buy a couple of hardback seats on eBay, refurb those, then swap them into the car, sell your old seats, done?
