Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've seen a 996 with 93k miles a 1998 C2 car with aero kit. It has had a recent rebuild at Hartech with the 3.4 converted to 3.7 litre The work came to over £15k! I'm buying my first Porsche and I like the idea of a rebuilt engine. What sort of ball park figure would you value such a car at? Thanks Simon

POST 2Original post

Loads of variables. If all other areas of the car have had the same approach as the engine rebuild eg the best, then it could be £25k. I'm talking full suspension and brake overhaul with refurbed calipers, Ohlins/KW coilovers, perfect interior, maybe with buckets etc etc. Like I say loads of variables and any £25k 996 C2 would be a hard sell at the moment but if it's perfect then someone may see the value in it. If there's still money to spend then £20k or high teens maybe.

POST 3Original post

A Hartech engined car, especially with enlarged cc's will be very desirable but as Marky has said the engine is only one component of the car - albeit the most important single one. The overall condition of the body interior and consumables are still crucial. The price will also be dependant upon who is selling it as this will vary by 25% depending on whether it's a private sale or from a specialist dealer. Aero-kitted cars are also quite scarce and well sought after but under the kit it's still a highish-mileage, 22 year old car so don't get blinkered. Value wise .......... it's difficult to say but if it's £5k more than any similar, standard engined naked cars you see advertised I wouldn't say it's too expensive.

POST 4Original post

As above - £5k up on an untouched engine car.

POST 5Original post

Without nice details its a ball park figure, i can imagine that a sorted car would be £25k plus. This is pushing the ceiling of 996 prices for Carrera's, there are quite a few aero kitted cars circa £20k. I also think it depends on it being a manual or not?

POST 6Original post

Wasn't there a silver C2 cabrio with Aero kit and a 3.7 Hartech up for around £15K for at least 6 months at a dealer? I asked them twice for the reg to check the MOT history and for photo's of the rear and got ignored. It seemed a good buy on the face of it, but clearly something was putting buyers off.

POST 7Original post

Agree with other posters that the £15k engine work alone from a trusted builder such as Hartech would give a gutfeel £5-7k premium to a car at resale... at which point all the other factors come into play I certainly think genuinely desirable 996 C2s can fetch £20-25k, but that there are a lot of sellers that simply presume that they are in that bracket - its a real bracket but a rarefied one! I'd go as high as £7k as a premium on a 3.7, simply because those cars are still relatively "new and exciting" among rebuilds.... how long before they almost become the "norm" on the good cars?

POST 8Original post

I don't think you can put an exact figure on this. It's not the type of thing that comes up for sale that often so there's no standard price. How much is peace of mind worth? How much money have you got in your pocket? It's worth the average of whatever the seller is asking and whatever a buyer is willing to pay. What does the seller think it's worth or is it a being sold at a blind auction?

POST 9Original post

Condition and provenance documentation is the most important thing. Then if it has proven documented power gains and other mods along the same lines then thats even better. It's got to be worth at least £5k more than it was before, with just the engine upgrade. I wouldn't be too surprised if it was £10k tbh. So go on, tell us ?

POST 10Original post

For the engine build premium, assuming it's a full recent, rebuild, with increased capacity to 3.7L by Hartech and runs perfectly, personally I'd pay £10k over an identical non-rebuilt (but healthy) model. I may even go a little higher. I think £5k over a non-rebuilt model would be a bargain.
