Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

After years on promising myself a 911 I've finally taken the plung and bought one. It's a 1998 C2 manual with 100k on the clock and FSH mainly at Porsche dealerships. I had to pick it up 2 hours away in ,Harrogate at 16:00. I was a little concerned that my first drive would be in rush hour traffic. Also it generally takes me a while to feel comfortable with a new car, mainly it's driving position. Oh my! It felt right but the time I'd driven to the closes Shell garage. We had a good drive on a mixture of motorways and country back roads. I know don't need to tell you guys how good these cars are. As I'd be preaching to the converted. I'm going to love owning and driving this car! Unfortunately on the down side. Along with the salesman, I made a list of minor faults for them to rectify before I picke the car up. Which meant I'd have to wait a week before it was ready. Unfortunately two or the issues have not been sorted out. One being the swimming pool that I found in the frunk after driving through heavy rain on the way back. I've ordered a new seal for it and I'll take the front bumper off soon to check the radiators and fit messy grills. I'll have a good look then to see if there's any accident damage or any other damaged seals. The next one and the one that annoys me the most is the water temperature gauge isn't working. After hearing 4 different story's of how it was fixed pre picking it up. On the way home the gauge showed a steady 80 degrees before hitting 120 then going off the clock and stopped by working again. Which means that as I don't know the car and I'm that busy for the next 3 weeks it's going to be sat and I can't drive it! 😢 If anyone has and fixes I could try for either problem any help would be appreciated. Yes I have tried a search re the water ingress issues but I couldn't find anything relavent. Which could just be my poor search skills! Also could anyone recommend a good sat nav head unit?

POST 2Original post

:welcome: welcome to the forum, owning a 911 is a real life changer...never thought I'd feel the way I do about a car....I know you've just got it but we need pictures As for the sat-nav replacement I swapped out my PCM1 for a Pioneer SPH DA-120. Its a carplay unit and I've been really pleased with it so far. There's this thread which you'll find some useful info about it and fitting etc http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=107958&highlight=double+din If it is a unit you decide to go for I've got a full write up about what you need to purchase, how to fit etc so just let me know and I'll send it over.

Congratulations on purchase hope you get all the jobs sorted and enjoy to the max

Woohoo ReDBull, :welcome: to the fold :thumb: Get some piccys up as soon as you can, we loooove Porsche piccys round here I pick up my 996.1 C2 Manual on Saturday too

POST 7Original post

Take the carpet out of the frunk and check the panel joins on the front of the car, especially in the corner near the headlights. If the cars ever been in a front end knock (even minor) these seams can be compromised, and the frunk fills with water.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That looks like a good bit of kit, perfect for what I want. If you could point me in the defection of your write up please 👍

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Re: Ive just picked up my first 911, wow. You're a star thanks for the link. It's running in the high 30's deg C and did go into the 40's when sat on my drive. Is that a little to hot?

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

A few photos from the dealers web site as I've still not had chance to take any myself. I've booked it into 911 Sprot in Horncastle so they can have s good look over it for me. Just for peace of mind.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've had a good look and found an area that a seam appears to be slightly raised. I've put some silicon sealer on it to see if that stops the water coming through. I'll get a body shop to have a look as soon as I can find a good one locally.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I had a nice run out to 911sport in Horncastle, Lincolnshire yesterday. I was impressed by their professionalism, knowledge and enthusiasm for my car. They also had a few nice cars for sale as well! They highlighted the faults that I thought the dealer I bought the car from should have rectified. Plus found a few other bits and bobs that need doing. I'm going to be calling the place I bought the car from tomorrow to see if they will sort out what they should of done. Here is the list of things 911sport found that I'd like to have a go at myself. Coil pack replacement. Replace all 6 spark plug oil seal tubes. Coil pack heat shields. Mass air flow sensor replacement. I've had a little search and will look further tomorrow. If anyone could in the meantime point me in the right direction of a how to guild. That would be great.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Since I last posted I've had new coilpacks, spark plugs and the heat shields fitted. Mainly I've been driving and enjoying it. Also fitted new wipers and replaced the MAF sensor which has made a huge difference to drivability and performance! Oh and I've fitted this which I've bought a while ago. I know they don't do anything for performance but it sounds good. Also ordered a few other bits and bobs that have been delivered over the last few days. Four of these. And these. Has anyone got any experience of adjustable top mounts? I'm not sure how much castor and camber adjustment you can get with the standard set up. So many was thinking of going the adjustable top mount route as it's much cheaper than adjustable control arms. Also I'd like to fit the GT3 console deleat. Has anyone got a link to where I could buy it all from or part numbers please.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Last weekend I meet up with friends for GTI Spring fest at Santa Pod. It was a great weekend involving meeting up at a travelogue on the Saturday night before the Sunday event. Lots of beer was drunk and nothing was spoken about except cars, cars and cars. My friend has a MKII Seat Cupra K1 which has been heavily modified for track use. He's currently running a TTE420 hybrid turbo which has been de tuned to over 400 BHP due to lack of grip. Neeless to say we had a fun drive to a from the event. Even though his car is not running well at the moment I was please that I held my own even though I was a lot down on power. All in all it was a good weekend. The up shot was I ended up buying a set of these which are on order and a new set of tyres as mine are 9 years old on the front and 8 on the rear! My car is also booked in for two days with Centre of gravity to have the coilovers and coffin arms fitted. Then they are going to set it all up for me. I had a long chat on the phone and it was great to speak to them. They are very enthusiastic and I know that my car is going to the right people to be set up.
