Thought I should double check first, in case people were referring to a different pipe, judging by the spread of power steering fluid this is the high pressure side 🤣

I've seen a few suggestions that rather than replace the pipe work (a pain of a job) using a couple of jubilee clips could at least make it drivable.

I don't seem to be having much luck, after replacing starter motor, y cable and voltage regulator to try and solve a hot start issue, I went for a drive round the block.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I don't seem to be having much luck, after replacing starter motor, y cable and voltage regulator to try and solve a hot start issue, I went for a drive round the block. Half way round the car started making horrible noises. Turns out the power steering pump was empty. Found the issue on the driver's side (I'm the attached picture). I've seen a few suggestions that rather than replace the pipe work (a pain of a job) using a couple of jubilee clips could at least make it drivable. The car needs a service and ideally I'd get a garage to sort this properly too (can't face another pig of a job right now). However life would be a lot easier if I could drive it there (also I want to check up that there aren't more lurking issues from being laid up (also I'm not convinced the electrical gremlins have been solved)). What do you reckon? Doable? Or am I going to have to bite the bullet and sort this.

POST 2Original post

If it is already leaking then you are just talking about driving a short distance to get it fixed. Which model is it? I have a full set of nearly new pipes for a 2001MY C4. MC

POST 3Original post

Hi Hotwire. Yes just peel the rotten crimp off and fit a jubilee. Job jobbed. :thumb: It's a 5 minute job (if you have a jubilee clip) but as Martin says you can probably get to the garage just fine. PS. The jubilee clip is a permanent fix. No need to revisit it. It's literally a 50p repair.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hmm it's about an hour's drive, so not short ahort., But hopefully manageable. It is a 2002 C4 ... I'm trying to do as much maintenance as I can, but after the starter motor taking ages (me being slow rather than the job being too much), I just want to drive the damn thing haha. So don't fancy doing what has a reputation as a tricky job.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I think I have some the right size in my random box of clips. I'll chuck one (or maybe two if I'm feeling fruity) on tomorrow and see where it gets me. Thought I should double check first, in case people were referring to a different pipe, judging by the spread of power steering fluid this is the high pressure side 🤣

POST 6Original post

I put 2 jubilee clips on mine, 1 either side of the "olive" bump in the middle of the joint, don`t leave the aluminium ferrule on the hose, just get rid of that :thumb:

POST 7Original post

And just to add, make sure you get the power steering fluid all cleaned of everything rubber down there or it will perish within days, the Pentosin fluid loves to eat rubber including tyres

POST 8Original post

Be weary of driving any distance. If the level of fluid gets below a certain point the steering could get very heavy. If you can do try the jubilee clip method first. When mine split unfortunately a jubilee clip didn't work. John
