I think the wheel was adjusted already when I tried it, so no problems.

I also had the steering wheel adjusted right out toward me, and at its highest setting.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I got the salesman to put the seat as far back as possible, the position is still not good, what makes it slightly better though is that the steering wheel can be moved towards the drivers chest, see that helps a bit.
Just been down to Leeds Porsche to see the Cayman, they have the same old colours that every other dealer has so far, silver, blue and black. The basalt black had a blue tint to it, we thought! Anyway, I like the car in person, I didn't like the 18' wheels though.
My main worry was the legroom and as soon as I looked inside the car I thought to myself 'there's no way I'm gonna fit in there' being 6'2/6'3. Anyway, I jammed the seat back as far as it would go(the mechanism is really hard to move) and lower the seat as far as it would go too.
Once in the driving position for me is borderline, when the clutch is fully up my knee is right up at the side of the sterring wheel and almost gets in the way of the gear stick. Secondly I felt that there wasn't alot of footwell space down by the pedals, especially at the right side of the gas pedal(RHD car).
So not great, I dunno what to do now actually. I'm gonna have to go back another day and have another sit in it.
Hi Mark
I'm 6'3" (34" leg) and had the same worries as you. However I found that with adjustment I got a good fit. At first I had the same thing with my knee against the steering wheel, but got around it in the end. Was the seat lowered as far as possible, and back all the way, with the backrest moderately upright ? I also had the steering wheel adjusted right out toward me, and at its highest setting.
The car I sat in had the sport steering wheel, which is a slightly smaller diameter so that helped too.
Hope you can adjust all the settings to get a good fit.
Tonse
Mark,
I know others like Tonse have managed to get a good fit. I think you do need to try it again. You did not mention that you adjusted the steering wheel and perhaps that will make the difference for you.
Good Luck, Russ
I went down to the new Porsche dealer in Chester at the weekend and didn't like the Cobalt Blue at all. Secondlythe 18' wheels definitely looked too small, although it appears to be colour-sensitive. The same wheels on the Basalt Black didn't look too bad, possibly something to do with the colour contrast between the tyre colour and the car colour. Did anyone think that the rear view mirror is a strange shape ? Glad I went for 19' wheels after all !
I am 6'1 and could not fit well in a 911, tried the boxter, and the trick was to pull the steering wheel all the way out and a bit up - it creates space for my legs, and was a good fit. Hope to sit in the Cayman early this week.
The rear-view mirror is still the old 986 Boxster style rear view mirror, much like the sun visors, Porsche's remake of the interior didn't go above eye level...
That explains it then ! I did also think that both the mirror and the standard wheel look out of place. They're both angular whereas the rest of the cockpit is based around circles. Having said that, the quality of the cabin is very good, although I'm getting a bit tired of looking and touching, I just want to drive the bl00dy thing ! I guy can only take so much foreplay !!!!
I am with you on that one Steve! It is getting hard to just keep reading and looking even with a little touching. Give me the CAR! Mine will be born 2 more days! But when will I get it, that is another story/.
Russ
I've got some long old legs on me and I have the seat right back. The position in spot on and staight legged. I woundn't any less room and you taller guys will struggle if you like the staight leg position. I'm 6'1 btw
Ok, so this afternoon I went to Sheffield Porsche to see their Caymans, no suprise that they have exactly the same cars as Porsche Leeds. Silver with Sport Designs, Black with 18's..
I got the salesman to put the seat as far back as possible, the position is still not good, what makes it slightly better though is that the steering wheel can be moved towards the drivers chest, see that helps a bit. I also sat in a 997 and that was a HUGE improvement, leg room was great and I could get in and out without too much fuss.
I'm still worried, however both dealers I spoke to today told me their waiting times were 16 months & 12 months and both said I wouldn't lose hardly anything if I wanted to sell the car. Not sure what to do, I'm gonna take delivery of the car and see how it goes, hopefully it should be fine. If not I'm gonna consider trading it in for a used 997 maybe? a bit dissapointed....
Mark,
Sorry if I am missing the obvious, but when you say, '[/quote]They told me their waiting times were 16 months & 12 months and both said I wouldn't lose hardly anything if I wanted to sell the car.' You are talking about a Cayman? Over 1 year waiting? I have not heard anything like that till now. And is it possible these early cars will sell for more than MSRP plus opts?
Thanks Russ

Yes, I'm talking about the Cayman. Sheffield Porsche said they have long waiting times because they were pro-active with their pre-orders, the guy said they had lots of names down and when it came time to get deposits they called people and got firm orders.
Both dealers gave me 6 months leada 997S. I get the feeling dealers in the north have much much longer waiting lists than those in the south.
Our dealer told me there wouldn't be much of a wait, and only had one pre-sold. They have held off working the pre-sales here, but that still seems to be a very different song. Is this just a dealer allotment issue? Why would dealers have such different stories?
My dealer only got 6 cars untill the next allotement and they are gone. He said that there is a waiting list, I didn't ask how long. Well this is good news for those of us that have already ordered, I guess?
Thansk Russ
My worst fear is that I may sell the 89 Speedster to get a Cayman. Saw it in the metal today and it sure was purty!! i would be a shame to have to keep it parked outside while the Speedster remained inside with the rest of the family. oh what to do??!! Do I forego the wonderful rawness of the 3.2 Carrera, or the leaking emergency top during torrential rain? Sorry for this repetitive blabbering.
Wes,
I am glad I am not faced with your problem. I would like to see you go for the Cayman, just to have some company on the Island, but only you can decide. Good luck ole boy!
Russ
