Hi, I am offered a set of used JIC coilover for $1500, but for that price, should I just buy a new set of PSS9 for about $1800.

I highly recommend a bilstien upgrade.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

17 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

After 100,000 miles she needed some refreshing....... a new set of bilstiens made a HUGE difference. I really like this car, looks like the second hundred k will be just as much fun as the first.

POST 4Original post

I'm sure the ride is much stiffer as well, no?

POST 5Original post

Quotes source post: 4616138

probably corners better as well ........... Enjoy your upgrade Gretch..

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 4616138

Surprisingly not........The quality of the shocks is just soooooo much better. The suspension just soaks up things like bridge expansion joints and rough road at high speeds. The ride is smoother and the car feels so much more sure footed, and flat as a granit slab, conering. There is nothing harsh about the ride at all. I am a really happy camper about the results I got.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 4616764

drop links, front rotors, bilstiens all around and an allignment, prox $3k HD bilstiens. While I was at it I had a new windshield installed too..........

POST 10Original post

I just did Bilstein HD's, H&R springs, adjustable droplinks and new sway bar bushings. Its like driving a new car. A bit more harsh, but not uncomfortable at all. Shocks and springs on eBay for $550, droplinks from Omar for $450, bushings for $40 and install for $400 + $240 for alignment. So all in for $1700 and change.

POST 11Original post

Glenn, do the shocks and springs along result in a drop in ride height?

POST 12Original post

Hi, I am offered a set of used JIC coilover for $1500, but for that price, should I just buy a new set of PSS9 for about $1800. I also see on ebay new Ksport coilover for only $1180. Would appreciate your comments & advise.

POST 13Original post

They did drop it. Probably about an inch in the rear and 1.25 in the front. It no longer has that weird higher in the front than back look to it. I have 18's on it and I'd say I have a one finger gap between the well and tire. I've promised someone else to shoot a picture and post. Will try and do that this weekend.

POST 14Original post

I just did ksport on MY99 Boxster with 90K miles. Car is used daily to and from work, over 20 miles one way. Coils are really good quality. You have to tie cables, piece of cake. I had to buy wheel spacers for the rear axe. First of all, you can't beat the price. Second, on the soft setting car handle wonderful. This is the way the suspension should be. I fell so much more confident in taking corners. Actually I think I will set it up stiffer. Set up ride height the way you want it. Great cheap upgrade.

JIC's are excellent and rebuildable. Very good for the track with double or tripple adjustability dependingon the model. personally i would choose them over the PSS9. I've heard the Ksports are crap. They are cheap for a reason, you get what you pay for. You should also consider the Porsche X74 kit.

POST 16Original post

Thanks for the recommendation. Are you able to advise what model/range is this? (basic or competition model?) I understand that the shock has certain life-span (100K miles?), would it be wiser to consider new than a used set?

POST 17Original post

Those look like the JIC cross product because the come with the camber plates and pillowball mounts. Based on the purple spring I'm guessing they are the competition adjustable. I was mistaken these models are only 1 way adjustable with 15 settings (not 2 or 3 way). How many miles are on these shocks? Now shock will last forever in my opinion. These shocks can be rebuild if they wear out. Ask the original owner how long they were on the car (mileage) and if they are adjustable.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
