Servicing is very reasonable, with minor (@ £500) every other year and major (£1000) every four, although they do tend to burn oil, so the oil changes itself a bit more often!

PCM2 is pretty poor, but standard fitment, so I often use my Tom Tom for postcode navigation.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi there, I'm new to this forum. I'm thinking of buying a 996 cab Turbo. Many will say why a cab, however i just like cabs so please no negative points please. I've had many BMW's and realise the way forward is Porsche. I have always likes the 996, and the turbo is something i'd love to have, as i don't see many on the road. I have thought of the c4s, however the turbo seems the look i prefer. I had the M3, M6, which were ok, but i'm fed up with BMW!!! I do approx 5000miles a year now, and i would like some advice on buying. Is the boot space really a lot smaller than a normal 911? Maintenance how are porsche on their service? Is the car a high maintenance vehicle, i.e electrice going worng etc etc. Is the car really that much bullett proof? Hows the sat nav? I've heard its not that good. PCM2. Any help would be much appreciated.

I do approx 5000miles a year now, and i would like some advice on buying. Is the boot space really a lot smaller than a normal 911? Some say yes, but in my C4s I can still do a weekly shop in it Maintenance how are porsche on their service? Like you I have owned many many //M cars, the 911 is cheaper by far! Is the car a high maintenance vehicle, i.e electrice going worng etc etc. Is the car really that much bullett proof? I have a C4s and wouldn't call it high maintenance, but I'd imagine a Turbo to be pricey if things go wrong Hows the sat nav? I've heard its not that good. PCM2. Not as good as Tom Tom but better than not having it at all!

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

i'm just fed up of the M cars now. I knew porsche was the way forward a long time ago, however the boot space was always the down side. Now i'm dead fed up, i'm hoping to go for it. Take a loss on mine, and hopefully retain as much as depreciation in the turbo as poss. I'm looking at a 2004, would this be advised, or should i go for a an 05? Hoping to get one from Porsche as well, although they are fairly few, i'm sure the one for me will turn up sooner rather than later.

POST 4Original post

:welcome: nevoptom! Never been a fan of any BMWs myself to be honest - partly the stigma of the badge, but mostly because they are overpriced Ford-equivalents under the skin (except for some of the engines)... How they get away with their primitive brake system and macpherson struts and charge £50k for an M3 is beyond me? Also, that ridiculous carbon-fibre roof is just so chavvy it's untrue - completely the wrong application for carbon fibre, which has very poor rigidity in large panels.

POST 5Original post

I used to have a Turbo cab, had some great fun in it.. For boot space I found it more than enough for a shop or weekend trip, additional space when the rear seats are dropped is even more handy in the cab as you can drop the roof to get easy access. I took mine to Lemans two up with tent et al I only ever had silly problems with the car in 24k from new.. no roof leaks etc.. 04 car is the Turbo facelift as in PCM2 and not PCM1 as the previous years model, also a few other options came as standard, of which I forget... Way superior to the BMW, but I see you've already sussed that bit. garyw

hey thanks for the responses. really helpful. Has anyone else had a turbo cab? any advice?

POST 7Original post

Convertible 996 TT Hi, I purchased a 2004 996 TT cab this time last year, because I love open top motoring and I love the turbo, despite what others may think, I bought it because I liked it. A terrific car but far more edgy than my previous Carrera 4 cab. The mid range power is adictive, but it takes more living with than the C4. Suspension is low and bad on Surrey A roads and the car is not so smooth to drive, as you would expect with a far more powerfull car. Additional bills can be quite high as the car is a lot more technical than the normally aspirated car and cost £30K more. Average fuel consumptin is just below 20 and on a run in the high twenties with only a range of about 250 miles on a tank. Boot space is identical to the C4 ie limited but adequate. Bit heavy on tyres particulaly at the rear, (£1000 a set). Servicing is very reasonable, with minor (@ £500) every other year and major (£1000) every four, although they do tend to burn oil, so the oil changes itself a bit more often! PCM2 is pretty poor, but standard fitment, so I often use my Tom Tom for postcode navigation. There were very few made and only for 2 years since the 2004 model year. Figures are Turbo 2004 -150, 2005 - 12. Turbo S 2004 - 21, 2005 - 67. So there were only about 250 sold in the UK, half probably being tiptronics - which are not to eryones cup of "T" but like cabriolets you buy what you like. In conclusion a fantastic car the only really usable & practical supercar with class!!! Make sure you buy one, they wont be selling many 997 turbo cabs so prices for the 996 TT cabs may well remain stronger than the coupes. Dont test one unless you can really afford one (now from about £40K upwards) - be warned!!!!

I'm back. After many searches i've finally found a 996 i like- tell me what you think. 2003 Coupe, Seal grey, leather. Sunroof, PCM +tip, carbon pack and x50 pack. [/b] 28000k Miles on clock. 3services in service booklet, 2 by porsche 1 by porsche indy. last service 24000k. I'm poss buying from an indy, pending figures. PRICE: 41.000k. 6month warranty to be inc, and a service from Strasse. What are your view, btw i have never test driven one b4, but have driven m3, m6, rs4 and have use of a 997c2s regularly. It is a little pricey but the mileage is low. You guys think it will hold value? what value you think i'll get in 4yrs? I only do 4k per year. What should i be looking out for? Thanks for taking the time to read, any help much appreciated.
