Am I right in saying the diode snip will still allow me to use the dashboard switch to put it in the permanently quiet mode.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Dear all I am about to get a 996 C4S with a sports exhaust (' '). I have read the articles about modifying the exhaust to get rid of the speed feature on Rennspeed. Am I right in saying the diode snip will still allow me to use the dashboard switch to put it in the permanently quiet mode. Or will the switch be deactivated also. I have searched and searched but can't quite work it out. By the way the car I have bought is the one that is sold on Stirling's website Thanks Neil

POST 2Original post

IIRC the rennspeed diode fix is will allow you to continue using the switch. It also allows other functions that rely on speed to continue, e.g. auto door locking. Its the route i would have gone down, well actually i would insert my own toggle bypass switch rather than kill the diode completely. But mine is not switchable so i just clamped the valves open. welcome, great car and if its from Mark, its sure to be a peach, enjoy! :thumb:

Have a look at this: http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=42251&highlight=hack It's the same brown connnector that I disconnected on my car and now its permanatly on and sounds great!

POST 4Original post

On 996 just snip the diode in the relay and it works fine. Dashboard switch just turns it off and on as before but without having the annoying quiet patch at 25-40 mph. If you want full control then you can wire a switch in series with the diode to make it standard again - but why bother you'll never want it back the way it was.... Best 10 minutes I ever spent. Hardest part is getting the cver off the relay as some force is required.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for that I will definitely do it. Must admit I am very very excited! Neil

POST 6Original post

Already done for you and tested the switch still works and no quiet zone between 25 & 45 welcome to the forum

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Mark Look forward to hearing the car!
