Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Factory or OPC fitted options, unless they add power/performance, do not affect
Leading evidence: 'Install options, unless they add power/performance, do not affect' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'latter' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Install options, unless they add power/performance, do not affect' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

My experience of this comes after having a Golf MkIV GTI fitted with a roof-spoiler which I had to declare to the insurance company.

Generally on the phone they seem to ask about "modifications or optional extras" - I don't see this as the former but it's probably the latter.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My 996 has got a PSE which was fitted when new.
I mentioned it to my
insurance
when I bought the car and it only added a couple of quid so it's declared currently.
My renewal is now up and I've done a couple of online quotes with and without it and it seems to add about £40 to the premium. Obviously this isn't going to break the bank but I'd rather not pay it if I don't have to.
Anyone have any opinions (or even better facts!) as to whether I should be telling my insurance about this? Generally on the phone they seem to ask about "modifications or optional extras" - I don't see this as the former but it's probably the latter.
Cheers,
Ben
(I should add to this exceedingly dull post about insurance that the PSE never fails to bring a smile to my face every time I start the car and is well worth the price of any additional premium.)
My understanding on optional extras is that the
insurance
company will not load the premium if the extras are fitted by the factory or the dealer, ie. they are official extras and not after-market items.
My experience of this comes after having a Golf MkIV GTI fitted with a roof-spoiler which I had to declare to the insurance company. They asked me what type of spoiler it was and I told them it was an official VW spoiler but fitted at the dealer. They didn't alter the premium.

Factory or OPC fitted options, unless they add power/performance, do not affect
insurance
premiums. PSE does not deliver any performance increase, so should definitely not increase your premium.
Change your insurance provider/broker
Declare it. If you don't you might as well not pay the premium in the first place as it will be the first technicality they will use to avoid paying. I declared my Manthey kit - cost nothing as it increased power less than 10%.
Jeff and Tertius, you are talking about non factory fitted mods which they won't pay for but they should for a PSE factory fitted.
I've thought a lot about this since I first posted. As factory fitted options could add anything up to £20-30k onto the basic car from new for Porsche's and other high end cars should they be declared as standard :?:
Anyone got actual experience of claiming for a write-off ?
You are right none are factory fitted. Realistically I think your chances of having a problem are very small, however, my concern would be actual validity of cover.
Personally I would:
a) go through a broker rather than straight to one of the large scale insurers who are simply not geared up for our sort of requirements; and
b) talk to the broker about it and make sure they understand the situation and get you the right cover
It seems pretty straightforward to me, as they specifically ask about optional extras and pse is an optional extra.
Whether not declaring it would cause problems is a different issue.
